Mads.

As someone made a thread like this before and I am building a new pc:

My budget is £750
Its for Gaming
want good solid performance

I was thinking:

Motherboard = Asrock motherboard X58 Extreme i7
CPU = Intel i7 920, D0 SLEBJ S1366, Bloomfield, 2.66 GHz
Graphics card = Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5
Hard Drive = Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B 320GB
Cd drive = Samsung SH-S223B/BEBE 22x DVD±RW
fans = Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler £34
casefan = Internal System Fan 12cm 4 pin £8
case = CIT 1003 Gaming Case with Side Window
power supply = CiT 700W Black PSU 12cm Dual 12v
RAM = ???? dunno yet

this comes to £600 without ram

“Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5”

i cant say much about pc’s.
1024 mb is allways nice but ATI sucks :o

Norrland3000

Take 4890 instead

uvio

i5 and 5850

Comedian

do you have a certain site or something where i can look and get a proper PC together for the UK? don’t know what the prices are in the UK and i don’t know what a proper cheap webshop is either

AnimaL

i5 +1

xtala

What Uvio said.
s1366 is a massive waste of money.

.wldcrd!

I’d recommend first off, getting EVERYTHING from scan, best retailer in the UK for this stuff, secondly, get a core i5 rig, i7 is NOT worth it, and locks you into expensive upgrades in the future, I’ll spec one up for ya here (sorry for it not looking too nice, I’m lazy):

PSU: Coolermaster Real Power M520 – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/520W-Coolermaster-Real-Power-M520-Modular-PSU-2xPCI-E-80-Efficiency”

Case: Coolermaster CM690 V2 – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Coolermaster-CM-690-V2-Dominator-Black-Midi-Tower-Case-with-Mesh-Top-Panel-w-o-PSU”

Extra Case Fans: 2x Sharkoon Silent Eagle SE 120mm – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/120mm-Sharkoon-Golf-Ball-Silent-Eagle-SE-fan-Quiet-Case-Fan-inc-4x-Speed-Cable-Set”

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3 – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigabyte-GA-P55-UD3-Intel-P55-S1156-PCI-E-20(x16)-DDR3-1066-1333-2200-SATAIIRAID-ATX”

HDD: 500GB Spinpoint F3 – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/500Gb-Samsung-Spinpoint-F3-HD502HJ-SATA-3Gb-s-7200rpm-16Mb-Cache-8ms-OEM”

CPU: i5 750 (Overclock to 4ghz much?) – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel-Core-i5-750-Quad-Core-266Ghz-(Lynnfield)-8M-Cache-LGA1156-CPU-Retail”

Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2 (Includes ze thermal paste, its surprisingly good) – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Arctic-Cooling-Freezer-7-Pro-v2-S1366-A1156-S775-AM3-AM2plus-AM2-939-Up-to-130-Watts!”

Optical: Optiarc 24x – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Optiarc-AD-7240S-0B-22x-DVDR-12xDVDDL-DVDplusRW-x8-RWx6-12xRAM-SATA-Black-OEM”

RAM: 4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600Mhz – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(2x2GB)-Corsair-XMS3-DDR3-PC3-12800-(1600)-240-Pin-Non-ECC-Unbuffered-CAS-9-9-9-24-XMP”

As for Graphics, it’s your choice, but I would personally go for either:

Nvidia: 896MB XFX GTX 275 – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/896MB-XFX-GTX-275-PCI-E-20-(x16)-Mem-2268MHz-GDDR3-GPU-640MHz-240-Cores-2x-DL-DVI-I-HDTV”

ATI: 1GB Sapphire HD 4870 – “http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1Gb-Sapphire-Radeon-HD-4870-GDDR5-CC-750MHz-PCIE-2xDVI”

Nvidia Total Cost: £722.26

ATI Total Cost: £681.75

The two graphics cards I’ve linked to are IMO the ones to go for, but so long as you get something with the same core (HD 4870 or GTX 275) you’re all good.

(As I side note, I’m currently running on something almost exactly the same, this build I specced above is a bit better ;) )

Now I don’t claim to be an expert with computers but I certainly build a lot and this is what I’d go for, GLHF!

–edit

Oh, and the links on here are retarded and needed to be put into quotes to make em work, sorry!

facepalm

tbh, I was gonna write a couple of changes you should make, but I just read Dynames post and its about 95% the same as what I was going to suggest so I would just +1 that.

P.S. on a totally unrelated note, I just lol’d at one of these motherboard descriptions:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigabyte-GA-P55M-UD2-Intel-P55-Motherboard-LGA1156

To satisfy a savvy users quest for a ‘genetically superior’ and winning motherboard. ASUS introduces the Xtreme Design Series As design provides the foundation for a superior performing motherboard. ASUS has devoted great effort to delivering cutting-edge design. With the Xtreme Design Series, users experience ultimate performance, ultra-cool operations and safer computing from the leader in design innovations

1: I think they like the word design, and think its important.
2: I didn’t realise Asus made Gigabyte motherboards?

Geforce 275GTX outperforms the 4850 & 4870

Memento Mori

You don’t want to get i7 because they are being discontinued or whatever. Get the i5 socket instead

i’d say go for this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-005-OB&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1333
and then get a case with suitable power supply and graphics card gives u just under £200 to get those 2 things :)

yea but it costs more so it should? whats the point here?

uvio

I don’t see the point why ppl still consider the last generation of gra-cards.
The 58 series of ATI is way more powerfull. The 5850 is priced so good … you have to compare it against an nvidia 285…, damn, kiddin me?
(Check the reviews on hardocp.com or anandtech.com…)
Even if you wan’t to buy one of the new paperlaunch nvidia when they are available you will still be able to sell the used ATI for 3/4th of the price to those that know better.

I sell hardware and i won’t reccomend nvidia hardware anymore. Too much problems with their bonding fuckups and how they handled it back when the 9600 was the go-to-card.

i9 on LGA1366 socket (the same as i7)

getting an i5 would be the stupid option :)
