This is a pretty urgent thing to report because it could damage or potentially completely ruin your video card if it’s ignored. The latest NVIDIA drivers, 196.75-WHQL released on March 2nd, 2010 are causing issues with the video card fan control while playing Blizzard (and other) games. This is caused by the Automatic Fan Speed feature being broken in the latest drivers.

The games included are: World of Warcraft, StarCraft II Beta and Warcraft III. If you play any of these games (which I’m pretty sure you do if you’re reading this website), you’ll want to roll your drivers back to earlier versions until this is fixed, unless you want to replace a video card within the next few days.

If you don’t want to roll back either

a.) mod your GPU BIOS not to adhere to automatic fan speed (what i’ve done in conjunction with putting overclocking/overvoltings settings in my GPU’s BIOS)
b.) download EVGA Precision/RivaTuner and set the fan speed manually

installed it in hopes it stops my random driver crashes when in tf2, still crash/frozen :/

Just finished doing a fresh install with 196.34 integrated, will FPS benchmark a demo now, and afterwards reformat with an install with 196.75 integrated and benchmark that.

tl;dr pretty graphs in the morning

Don’t go expecting miracles.

This benchmark was done w/ following GPU/CPU and a self-made FPS config at 1900×1200 res in dx80:

AMD Phenom II X4 940 OC @ 3.507GHz (242 * 14.5)
XFX 260GTX 216SP OC @ 710/1107/1476MHz (core/mem/shader)

There’s very little in it to be honest.

EDIT: By the way, the points where it goes incredibly high out of the blue are when it goes to killcam, and when it goes incredibly low (at about 195 seconds) I have opened my backpack.

EDIT #2: Some stats, new drivers on the right:

Yeah, you should really change the thread title:

Meh.

I do see a slight performance increase that the numbers don’t show. As long as you’re careful and you know what you’re doing, there is no reason not to use these drivers.

Unless you play a blizzard game it seems. Even people who “know what they’re doing” are unlikely to think to check their card is actually spinning its fan at the correct speed.

I installed yesterday before i heard about all this, i dont play blizz games will mine be fine ?
