Both Poland and Ukraine have had neo-fascist movements building for ages, especially at football matches. I’ve seen footage both recently and over the past few years, of horrific scenes both inside and outside football matches in these countries…very similar scenes to our own football matches of the late seventies and early eighties.

Anyone thinking there isn’t a problem is deluding themselves. Remember it only takes a few idiots to start something massive, mob mentality rules with football fans I’m afraid.

In football terms I feel the lack of any massive expectation from the English public and media will help us out a bit…but we’ll still be shit, I mean we’re England at a tournament. I honestly think we’ll do very well to get out of the group stage myself.

Winning this tournament will be Spain, Netherlands or Germany.

I pray to a non-existant god that the police will be on top of any problems before they grow.

One last point to make is this is the lowest amount of fans England will be sending to an overseas tournament for…well, forever I think. You Eastern Europeans are obviously very scary…

You’re adorable. Here some polish fans at Lithuanian stadium. http://youtu.be/k3L5U-Jyplg

As said, I’m sure the vast majority of Polish and Ukrainian fans are good chaps with no interest in fighting other idiots…but as I said, it only takes a few inbread mongs to whip the rest into a frenzy and people will be seriously injured.

If you honestly think the entire tournament will go off without any trouble then you’re a huge optimist and I envy you.

I think you ( Monkey and dauk ) misunderstood yourself, but nvm. The problem is that people treat hooliganism as racism, what is wrong. Hooliganism is still a problem in Poland, but it’s not bigger than in other countries ( England including ). What’s more, since Poland was announced as one of the hosts of euro 2012, our government made radical changes which helped alot with the problem. The last and imo most important thing – we’re talking about fights between clubs. Euro 2012 is a commercial event where families go ( no “ultras” ;) ). It is obvious that BBC wouldn’t show calm and peaceful matches, because it is not a good material for screen documentary, but it’s hilarious how many people got manipulated so easy. It’s easy for me to say as I live here, but It’s not breaking news that tv stations do such things.

I heard that some polish fans’ chants subtitles were fake in the bbc film, is that true?

I dont know anything about it, but It might be the case as the whole documentary was made to show Poland and Ukraine in wrong angle.

the english hooliganism is dead, it has had its time – but stadium bans etc killed it.
also I agree on the family part – no hooligans or ultras would be able to get the tickets, because of how much overpriced they are.
and an intresting article to read about polish fans : http://www.ultras-tifo.net/news/398-poland-football-fans-against-government.html

Exactly. The changes made by polish government touched even normal fans, but at least the issue with hooligans decreased alot. I wouldn’t say that the problem is totally gone in England, but its not even comparable to the situation 20 years ago. It’s totally under control, but it’s the same case in Poland. Hooligans are banned, stadiums are closed during “hot” matches between clubs, police is everywhere.
