WOOOOO!

Hey guys, I really want to get a constant 100fps in 6on6s and I was wondering if u guys could help me out a bit!
Im using an FPS config atm and currently I get 100fps in MOST situations but on more FPS damaging maps and when in areas of focused battle, my FPS drops and normally goes as low as 70 (I know it’s not THAT low at all but still.). I feel it’s the drop thats more damaging then the actual FPS so I am thinking about capping at 70fps, but thats just not nice!

My PC specs:
2MB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo – 6600 @ 2.40 GHz (not overclocked)
2 x 200GB Hard drives (one 70% full the other 50% full)
GeForce 9800 GTX Graphics Card
No sound card (using onboard)
System model – D975XBX2

What would be the cheapest way to get a gain in FPS going by my specs? Like is it worth getting another graphics card or more RAM or what?

Thanks for help!

2MB fail.

anyway Anderson is right if you are using xp / vista 32 bit

Isn’t that command still crashing TF2 randomly?

Foxt

I get 50-60 fps with fps config :(

Maybe you have background programs running? TF2 needs a good CPU more than a good graphics card.

Buy a mac, they fucking own.

Shrapnel

Cheapest way is overclock that cpu.
(Assuming you don’t break it, then it’s expensive.)
Many people have q6600’s running at 3.6ghz
3.0Ghz is a near certainty.

Bear in mind you need a crt to have 100fps displayed.

Edit:
Rereading your post you probably have the e6600 right?
Which might not be such a good overclocker, but 3.0Ghz should still
be achievable, assuming your motherboard is suitable.

xtala

E6600 is better for oc’ing than the Q6600 afaik.

WOOOOO!

Im using mat_queue_mode atm and have two CPUs running on it.

And yea im using a CRT display iiyama Vision Master 450 @ 100hz.

Erm I don’t know if its the E6600 or the Q6600 :x

Would I need more fans if Im overclocking? What would be safe? 3.0GHz?

3ghz should be fine, but you might want to consider getting a after market cooler for the CPU.

press alt crtl delete and check the performance tab to see how many cores you have showing you if its a Q6600 or a e6600

or right click my computer and click properties will also show you the CPU type.

Source engine games are hugely CPU intensive, so your best bet is to either Overclock your current CPU to something like 3ghz or buy a e8400, which is 3ghz at standard but will overclock to 4ghz.

you should find all the help you need here for overclocking if you choose that route.

good luck :)

Seconded Dunc :D

WOOOOO!

dual core being the E6600 yea?

Hmm okay. As far as cooling goes will a fan be okay? I don’t need any fancy water cooling do I. Sorry bout this I am a newb when it comes to overclocking and PC performance.

Shrapnel

Nah water cooling is just some fun for overclocking geeks really imo.
Good air cooling is pretty good these days.
A better heatsink and fan is a good investment.
Think I have one of these :

I’m running an e7200 2.53ghz @ 3.6Ghz With an ati 4850
Res 1024×768 @ 120 Hz lately.
Dips from 120fps are few and far between :)

and a decent power supply!

ever tried to disable sounds in tf2? it is possible that your onboard chipset is killing your framerate. in this case, getting a decent card could solve the problem.
