Season 29: More Updates

With the re-introduction of Open tier as our season equivalent of the Fresh Meat Tier, we will be applying a new general rule affecting exclusively the lowest tier in the league. Low is not affected by this rule

3.6.1 All previous experience will be taken into account in the Open/Fresh Meat tier

If a player has previously participated in a higher tier, all of their previous experience will be taken into account in the lowest skill tier. This rule applies to the Open/Fresh Meat tier, given that a Low tier is currently in play.

Furthermore, we’re also publishing a list of known bugged spots on various maps that will be added to the already existing Bug-Using rule. If players find any ulterior spots that could be considered illegal to use then we strongly recommend contacting an admin for clarification.

6.1 Bug-Using is not allowed
Any kind of “Bug-Using” is not allowed. Player using bugs will be punished.

Most commonly seen banned map spots include:

  • Upward: Teleporter in dropdown spot on 3rd point
  • Gullywash: Last point shutter shoot through
  • Gullywash: Taunting through the ceiling of elbow
  • Product: Skybox bugged spot

If you are unsure about the legality of any sneaky spot on a map, please contact an admin to clarify the situation and prevent complaints from your opponent.

EDIT: Removed the general angled wallsticking ban applied to all maps.

Both of these rules will come into effect immediately in Season 29.

Season 29: Playoff information

Additionally, with the addition of Div 1 and Div 2 replacing High tier, here’s a quick explanation as to how playoffs will work.

With Premiership and Div 1 we will have 4 teams playing in a double elimination format as it has been done previously.
In Div 2, however, we’re going with 3 teams from each group, with a total of 6 playoff teams in a single elimination format. The top seed of each group will start in the semifinals, while the third seed from Div 2a will be playing against the second seed from Div 2b and vice-versa.
All other tiers will have 8 teams playing in a single elimination format as usual.

Regarding promotions, not all teams that reach the playoff stage will be guaranteed to play in the division above the following season. Only the semi-finalists in Mid are guaranteed to be promoted to Div 2, while only the finalists of Div 2 will secure a spot for Div 1.

Staff Changes

Due to his long duty as an admin and the dedication put towards the league, we’re happy to announce that we’ve promoted Finland Bloodis to the role of Head Admin, joining Germany DCS and Belgium Aoshi.

ETF2L recruiting!

We are also once again looking for more volunteers to help run and maintain the league, mostly on the look for Highlander oriented League Admins but if you have another offer in mind that ETF2L would benefit of, feel free to also follow the following lines.

League Admin

Among other things league admins take admin requests on IRC, deal with match conflicts, handle the setting of Default Dates and the verification of played matches. They also create and oversee cups.

The role of a League Admin is not particularly time-consuming, however it is important for admins to be able to plan their availability for routine tasks and pre-scheduled activities, such as cup nights, Season preparation/wrap-up, etc. Additionally providing support during match times has grown in importance, therefore we cannot really employ admins who have team commitments every four to five times per week (especially but not limited to Thursdays). Same goes for creating and overseeing cups. It is always easier said than done, having the idea and setting up a cup is only a small part of actually running a cup. Being there when the cup is under way, providing match support, dealing with conflicts, lending out servers, seeding further rounds, verifying finished matches and many more tasks have to be handled, while possibly over 100 matches are going on simultaneously, you may not be alone, but you will be part of it.

Also something we want to adress is our interest in self-managed admins, we will not take you by the hand and lead you through everything there is to do. YOU have to show interest, YOU have to ask what you can do, YOU have to prove you really want to be an admin. There are plenty of admins around almost all the time, who are happy to help you and show you the ropes, but at some point routines will have to be dealt with without someone telling you that they need to be done. At the same time, communicating with other admins is very important, to avoid certain tasks being done twice, conflicting results in decisions or even decisions overwriting previous ones.

If you are interested in supporting the administrative backbone for the league, you should also check out the details on the respective application page, this will tell you which information we need from you at the very least. With an emphasis on THE VERY LEAST, most applications that cover only the very basics will not go very far. Additionally this general page may provide you with some more information.

If you are interested in any of the roles on the Staff mentioned above, send an email to [email protected] with the following information:

  • Name
  • ETF2L profile link
  • Country of residence
  • Age
  • Previous experience (optional)
  • Special skills or contacts that may help the league (optional)
  • Available free time

Thanks for the last paragraph, althought i’ve already been said this, that when a website needs help of non-payed admins, It’s the people that have to be convincing by their words, and not only by their applications :)

“With the swiss system, setting Default Dates does not create as much of a task as it used to do, since a huge portion of it is automated.”

Maybe this is a bit out of date now?

    Congrats Bloodis!

True, thanks for pointing it out, it’s still not a massive task now however considering that we are planning to keep Mid and other tiers below it automated under Swiss System, but I can understand that it’s slightly out of place as we are attempting to bring back Round Robin to higher tiers.
