sup guys,
I’m looking for some help to pick out a new processor for my pc.
Since my old one is going to shit. ( or already is )
I’ve been looking around on websites or in the stores around my town and i’ve found some quad cores or dual cores.
Just throw your thaughts in. ( links appreciated )

Anyone would like to help me pick one?
Would be happy to stay around the price from 125 – 250 euros.

Am also willing to implent a new motherboard if needed.
Thanks.

This.

If your pc is old as fuck it might not be worth it to get a quad core for example, or it may not even be compatible >_>

I’m in the same boat as you, i’m looking to build another system preferrably for LANs / easy to carry and at the moment processors are tough to decide on. I have on my main system a Q6600 and it’s fantastic however its difficult to find it in stock these days and those that are found have inflated prices for some reason as opposed to when I found & bought the first time round. I’ve been tempted to look and go down the AMD architecture but with the amount of negative comments from them I’m weary about it. And a decent i5/i7 processor is fabulously expensive, read the tomshardware guide link and that has sort of urged my view more to AMD for a bargain quick system.

Any advise for a processor for around £120 mark (135 euro) is greatly appreciated, or anyone who can share their experiences with an up-to-date AMD system.

Which AMD processors have you been hearing bad things about? I’m only hearing positive things about the Phenom II line.

It just goes in waves, before the Core architecture AMD was the way to go.
Same goes for the short perion in between Core i7 en Core i5.

I’m prolly going to just buy me a whole new tower.

Specs:

Thermaltake M5 Black
HD Caviar GP/1TB SATA III 7200rpm 32MB
Kingston – Memory/ 3GB 1066MHz DDR3 CL7
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R
Intel – Core i7 920/2.66GHz FSB 1333 8MB LGA 1366
ASUS BC-06B1ST, internal blu-ray writer SATA, 6XBD read,
Gigabyte Power Supply 720W, power cord ATX multi color
Gigabyte – GV-N275UD-896H/GTX 275 896 MB GDDR3

opinions please?

If you’re not going to do shitloads of rendering, video editing etc. Go for an i5 base pc.

Get an HD5850 instead of the GTX275, or an HDHD4890, first one is way better and more recent, second one has the same performance but it’s cheaper.

Get the Caviar Blue/Black unless it’s a storage disk, the Green series have a fixed rpm in between 5400-7200, it’s designed to use very low power, however this also means less performance.

With the money you can spare from going for i5, you can probably get an SSD.

xtala has it if your looking to buy a full new rig.

got myself the i5 when it launched and its fucking awesome o/ so much fps, so little cash
