Free .avi editor? + How to do this?

Is there a free application to edit .avis? I’m learning to edit/convert demos and being able to create my own fragvids. I’ve got converting them to avis and smoothing down, but now the ‘fun’ part: the actual editing of the avi.

Two more questions:
How do I speed up/slow down the video like you often see without getting the demoui in the way? Like at 3:37 in Random Damage (http://pldx.com/movie/650/Random_Damage/)?
How do I get those graphics? Is that by editing the avi or using ingame settings?

Have a look at Adobe After Effects (CS3/CS4, thats just the version). Its the best thing to do slow-mos and so on. These two links should be all you need to learn it:

You can use some shitty opensource tools like Jahshaka or Wax. Or use 30 days trials of Sony Vegas or Adobe Aftereffects. Or you can even try basic videoeditor Windows Live Moviemaker :)

To get “those graphics” you have to set maximum graphic settings ingame and then do a collorcorrection for video in one of above tools

Well, I can tell you how I do the slow-motion effect, in Premiere (but you can probably apply this to any video editing app).
First of all, record the video at a higher fps than what you’re going to use. For example, if I want to make the video at 50fps and the slow-motion 3 times slower, then I’ll record that video at 150fps. I record it as tga frames, so I import them in premiere, drag the footage on a video track and then apply a time warp effect to it. This time warp thingy allows you to change the speed of the clip any time you want by setting keyframes. Since the footage is at 150fps and I want it to be at 50, I set the time warp to speed up the footage by 300% and whenever I want it to slow down I bring it back to 100%.

However the audio won’t slow down, so what I do is to split the audio track with the razor tool when the speed drop occurs and bring down the playback speed of the half of the track that will be under the slowed down video. Since it’s 3 times slower, I slow it down to 33.333%. Then I split this slowed down part where the slow-motion ends and I bring the speed of the resulting half back to 100. The thing is that slowed down it was at 33.333, so when I set it back to 100% it’ll actually be 99.99%, hence why it’s better to slow down your stuff by a number that divides 100 into a nice even number; for example slow down 4 times, which will result in slowing the audio to 25%.
Here’s a little example of what I just jabbered about:

^setting cl_autoreload to 0 didn’t help with the parkinson weapon :(

If you want to speed it up, same thing only you increase the speed of stuff. Also if you just want to speed up parts of the footage there’s no need to record at a higher fps.
If the footage you want to slow down bits of is fairly long, then record just the parts where you’ll need to slow down at a higher fps so you’ll save some disk space.

There may be other ways too, and I’m willing to find out about them also. But until then, I’ll use this method.
I think I confused you more than helped you because I explain like shit, so sorry for that. I tried :(

ive never been to that site and people still think f10 trailer is nice, am i a magician?
all that leads to is slight variations of the tutorial video effects which nobody fucking needs

All videocopilot can do is help you get on the right track with editing, if you don’t do anything else than copying the tutorials it will still look like shit.

I’ve seen pretty intros too many times, only to be followed by awful quality footage with too much contrast and zero syncing. :p

Ye, its useful if your doing it right, i.e. using it to learn the tools. Theres a million ways to use the ease-in and ease-out tools but most people only use it for whats in those tutorials.
