1. 240fps/300 fps
2. after effects
3. host_framerate 240/300, record as tga, compile with virtualdub, render as lossless from ae ~ 30 fps – frame blending on, then encode with megui
recently tried to render with 60 fps the lossless avi in AE and kept that value in megui

…host_timescale 0.0001;demo_interpolateview 1;demo_interplimit 15000 (does anyone else actually use these commands? they’re pretty useful but i’ve never seen them discussed)…

Are they not already included in the PLDX tools cfg?

I’ve played around with frameblending in AE, but can’t see any difference in preview. Do you get the results rendertime?

Record at 300 fps ingame, render to 60 fps (occasionally 30 fps for simple youtube clips) in vegas with the built-in frame blending. I’ve had a look at some 3rd party motion blur effects, but they always seem to mess up 2d elements and it looks good enough just with frame blending so I’ve kept it at that.

host_timescale 0.0001 – it is
demo_interpolateview 1 – isn’t included, but it is the default value so doesn’t need to be included.
demo_interplimit – default value (4000), i’ve never tried it and don’t know what kind of effect it has?

framerate: 480
app: adobe premiere pro (that’s where i do the editing)
technique:
record at 480 fps ingame. then render 60 fps in VD. in PP accelerate the video to approximately 800% and turn on frame blending for the clip.

result1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhWXrdtpqxY
result2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JttpC9pYIW4

This gives smoothest results in adobe no idea about vegas

Sorry to get (slightly) off topic but why do you choose to edit in premiere pro as opposed to after effects?

AE was designed not for editing but for compositing and stuff like that. I like it very much and use it quite often, but it’s terribly inconvenient to edit there (well at least for me). While PP was exactly built for montage and editing.

1. Framerate for source material
240 fps

2. Application used (ie After Effects, Vegas etc)
Vegas (for motion blur technique..)

Pldx tool record tga, compile lagiraith lossless, edit, render to 30 fps.

HOLY WOW THATS some impressive quality, care to share what encoder do you use and what settings :)?

Thanks in advance

TF2: 300fps TGA with WAV sound
VirtualDub: framerate set to sync with audio and encoded as lagarith
After Effects: Import 300fps lagarith files, then pre-comp all video files individually at 30 or 60fps depending on what frame rate I’m looking for on the final export, then create proxys.

Makes the initial capture and the final export take a lot longer, but the actual creative editing process is totally unaffected regardless of the initial recorded FPS. I can’t believe it took months for me to work out it was worth creating proxy’s.

Only recently did I figure out the method Skyride told me of quite a while ago in a similar thread. http://etf2l.org/forum/leaguea/topic-14311/?recent=244870

Simply using “CC Force Motion Blur” combined with pixel motion frame blending looks great. Although make sure you untick “Override Native Shutter” because for some reason whilst it is ticked, it doesn’t seem to do anything. One drawback is that it makes the rendering time absolutely ludicrous, although I guess it would be about the same as using very high FPS footage. Another drawback is that it makes HUD elements blur around the place. Of course you can just record without the crosshair but the kill notifications can’t be helped, as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvyT3lM_MWw&list=UL2X3OBo9SFGI&playnext=2 In fact that clip was actually only 24FPS. I originally tried recording at 60FPS and rendering at 60FPS. This was great, but if I wanted to make a 24FPS version for youtube, simply cutting the framerate down to 24FPS ruined the motion blur, hence I had to render a raw 24FPS .avi from the original 60FPS .avi and then re-render that seperately. From my tests, using more than 8 samples for the motion blur doesn’t make any noticeable difference.

I agree, that vid quality looks better than normal youtube. Luckyluke, explain!

And you, chris. Plz explain what the deal is with demo_interplimit

Well I record and upload everything at 1600×900, leave everything uncompressed until the final video. Then compress it with ffmpeg, mostly about 10000 bitrate (hq setting).
Also color correction or other effects (sharpen etc..) can make it look much better.
