Hi! The FF scene is very small and it’s growing slightly, but not enough. There are only about 20 active players in pickups and the pubs are almost dead. Now they are doing a cash tournament to bring more players to test this new game and its competitive side. The TF2 scene is a perfect place to snitch some players to the FF scene! :)

Prizes!

1. 800$
2. 200$
3. 0$ :))

(Please note: These are not final, the prizes may actually increase.)

How is TF2 similar to FF?

FF is a Source-mod based on TFC and QWTF, the predecessors of TF2. While TF2 is a whole new game, FF is trying to be loyal to the original franchise, with its bunnyhopping, conc-jumping etc. There are 9 classes, like in TF2, and some familiar maps, like 2Fort and Dustbowl. Everything else is different.

How is it played competitively?

Well we all know that TF2 is played with the classic “cookie cutter” setting. But FF is quite different. The format is 4v4, where one team is on offence and the other one is on defence. You may remember that TFC and QWTF are 8v8, where both teams attack and defend at the same time. But, because there are not that many players, it’s inevitable that the playerlimit gets halved. I think this is the case in TFC scene as well, nowadays.

So it’s 4v4, one side defends and the other attacks. You may not attack while defending. While it would seem like a good idea, this is not how FF is played. It’s 4v4 because there are not enough players. If it was as big as TF2, it would probably be played in 8v8 format, when both teams attack and defend at the same time.

THE ATTACKERS CAN USE

– Unlimited amount of scouts
– Unlimited amount of medics
– 2 heavy classes (Soldier, Engineer, Demoman, Spy), but you can only use one class at the same time (no 2 soldiers)
NO HEAVY, SNIPER or PYRO

Heavy classes aren’t usually used in offence. Instead, using 2-3 medics and 1-2 scouts is used the most.

THE DEFENDERS CAN USE

– 1 Heavy (Heavy Weapons Guy)
– 1 Engineer
– 1 Demoman
– Unlimited amount of Soldiers
NO SPY, SCOUT, MEDIC, SNIPER or PYRO

The most used lineup for defence is 1 heavy, 1 demo, 1 soldier and 1 engineer.

PYRO AND SNIPER ARE ALWAYS BANNED!

Servers

There is no info on this subject yet, so stay tuned.

Map pool

Unlike in TF2, the FF community doesn’t nitpick about maps. There are 27 maps played actively! (However, some maps are more popular than others) But as far as I know, some original maps like Well, Dustbowl and 2Fort are not played. More info about the map pool can be found on the official tournament site soon. Stay tuned!

How to join?

Joining is simple. Go to http://www.ffpickup.com/leaguethis site[/url] and register. You need to put your SteamID and your email (no verifications needed), and after that you can either join or create a team. 6 players in a team is max.

Meh. FF is really cool, but it’s NOTHING like TF2.

Good move. :)

But you should clarify format of this tournament: cup or league. Your website says it will be league, is it right?

This isn’t actually fully decided. We need more teams to join up first, and then we may know if we can have a league. The league is there just to get good seedings for the playoffs.

It’s quite simple.

Offence vs Defence.

Attackers try to get the flag out, often by moving the flag out inch by inch (throwing the flag), with the occasional big run and chain cap.

Defenders utilize a zonal defense system, with a front line and last line defence, where front line calls any incomings to the last line who react accordingly.

You typically run mostly medics, with the occasional scout on offence. Medics can choose to DM a defender, or to run past them. Because there are instant respawns, simply getting past the defender is often the preferred choice, though sometimes killing a defender results in additional team mates getting through to the last line of defence with full health, and some grenades left, so it is a viable option. Speed is essential on the attack.

Front line defenders stay close to a respawn, and spam a crap load of grenades and rockets to ensure damage to players as they come in, resulting in an easy kill for the last line defence.
