Jesus christ, my eyes started bleeding when I saw some of the banners in the vote. Weird fonts that were obviously chosen for no other reason than “looking sick”, artefacts caused by histogram-breaking curve and level adjustments, text figures in words (why!?), no pixel-hinted logotypes, unproportionally scaled logos – I could go on forever…

I’m not saying that my submissions are the ne plus ultra, but I’m actually surprised that none of these are in the contest when compared to most of the entries that are now in the vote:

Maybe because every man and his dog went for the blurred-out-map-scenery-background approach, and all yours are just variations on that tired theme?
Six of the finalists had that, and that’s me excluding the ones that are not explicitly a TF2 screenshot, such as Dylan, Kedane and Sylosin’s efforts.

My favourites (other than my own :P) are, in no particular order:
Oxy #2
Kallio (although the silhouettes have likewise been done to death, I really like the map of Europe)
FainT
Supadupa #1 and #2
phife, even though he’s forgotten about the other classes/Highlander

I also like what kitty did with the faces, even though I don’t think it works very well as a banner the idea was good and more original than taunt silhouettes.

EDIT: also admins there is no capital letter in my name kthxbai.

To be honest, even if you were going to design the site from scratch only about 6 of them would be worth using.

Yeah, I think it would look fine. The colouring for the back of buttons etc can be changed very easily along with colours and block colours can be changed into images/gradients very easily too as you know yourself so sure, it’d look fine.

What’s the deal? I created a tasteful, simple variant of the “blurred-out-map-scenery-background approach”, and just because it features a map background means it’s bad? I just think it’s kinda stupid to have a shitload of awful stuff in the vote that does NOT feature a map background simply for the sake of not having too many entries that DO feature a map background ;)

Get your logic straight, man :D
