Highlander Season 6
It’s time for another season of Highlander!! We have some changes in store for Season 6 to be announced in upcoming newsposts – today we’ll start off with the weapon banlist and provisional map schedule for the season.
Signups & Full Schedule
Signups have opened and close Thursday 27th February at 23:59 CEST.
- Signups: February 16 – February 27
- Publishing of Provisional Divisions: February 28
- Publishing of Final Divisions: March 1
- Schedule Week: March 2 – March 8
- Main Season: March 9 – April 26
- Catch-up Week: April 27 – May 3
- Playoffs: May 4 – May 24
Sign-up process
Make sure to choose your desired division when signing up. If you created a new team or feel you can jump a division, feel free to apply for the division you believe you deserve you should be in. To prove you are capable of the division you applied for, we require you to submit screenshots of results from your recent practice matches or tournaments where you scored decent results against teams that play on the level you aim for. The quantity is not the most important factor in this case, it’s more of a helpful measure for us to figure out if your team will be able to keep up with the pace. There is no magical, minimum or maximum number of screenshots that you have to submit.
Please note that the success of your request also strongly depends on the free slots in the division you aim for. Established teams will be favoured over new teams or teams that request to jump a division. The screenshots have to be uploaded to an online image storage service (for example, you can use imgur or Dropbox). Keep in mind that if you opt for a zipped archives with tons of pictures attached to an e-mail, your application will be ignored. Keep it clean.
If you are applying for Division 6 (which is our entry division), you do not have to provide any proof that you are capable of playing at that level. This only applies to Division 5 or higher.
Because we can only include teams in multiples of eight, signing up really late may not guarantee you a spot in the season. So signing up sooner than later is recommended.

Provisional Unlocks
There are a few changes to note. The Crit-A-Cola has been banned, as we feel the benefits heavily outweigh the drawbacks. The Short Circuit and The Diamondback were added to the banned list halfway during Season 5, and will both be banned for Season 6. Baby Face’s Blaster recently had a few changes to buff it, and we feel it is too easy to maintain the speed buff without any significant drawbacks. The Reserve Shooter also had a few buffs, with the increased time to crit, and the extra clip we feel this weapon is also unbalanced and is banned. We have reviewed The Huo-Long Heater and decided it doesn’t warrant a ban and it is now allowed.

After much internal debate, we’ve arrived at the following provisional map list and week structure:

- Week 2: koth_pro_viaduct_rc4 + cp_gullywash_final1
- Week 3: pl_upward
- Week 4: cp_gravelpit
- Week 5: pl_badwater
- Week 6: koth_lakeside_final + cp_process_final
- Week 7: pl_barnblitz_pro4
Please note that this is a provisional map list and may undergo changes based on user feedback. Teams are invited to discuss the map pool and provide constructive feedback in this thread.

This is too early.
Short feedback:
-A bit early. Should be delayed by 2 weeks or maybe even more. Atm there’s also vacations going on for most scandies unless I am very wrong. I at least know my team leader is gone until the end of the next weekend.
-Please unban crit-a-cola. It is a very respectable weapon.
-Steel and GPit are really similar, and are categorized as these kinda maps that most people dislike. Keep either one and swap the other for Swiftwater at least.

Jesus, I am starting to regret signing up for UGC immediately after ETF2L ended, and with wireplay coming up, it feels like we are drowning in highlander..
Please see if you can move it, Wireplay is gonna suffer badly from this, and I’d hate to see that happen to one of my favorite leagues.

I don’t have problems with gravelpit and steel, but why do we have to play steel in week 1? Its way too early, put up a really simple map like barnblitz for week 1
Actually scratch that. Why the fuck do we have to play 4 CP (2 A/D 2 5CP) maps in HL?
I think season timing is perfect. Unless you find yourself in playoffs or stuff like that, season ends before exams and summer

Why is barnblitz even a thing still?
5CP is really shit in HL. Like I always thought I played on really shit teams vs really shit opponents, but lately I’ve found that everyone are fucking awful and it’s a shit experience for everyone. I get that diversity in the map pool is generally appreciated, but I’d rather play only Badwater for a season that have to play process/gully again. Literally borderline suicidal-thoughts for 30 minutes.
Wrong Hallow, certain maps are bad, some are okay, it’s a case of how you play and adapt.
If you think Wireplay is getting fucked, quit UGC and play in the better league. :D

Tutorial, not everyone is a 15 year old kid with years of free time
Overlap with 6v6 is kind of unavoidable. It’s going to happen unless you don’t want Nations Cup, or 2 seasons a year for HL and 3 for 6v6. Delaying it means eating into the next planned competition and so forth, the only real alternative is to shorten playoff timings, ie gain a week by giving teams like 5 days to play their playoffs or something along the lines.
If other league’s are worried about scheduling clashes affecting their signups, perhaps their admins should approach ETF2L admins and discuss the dates. No reason why more than 1 league can’t co-exist and work around eachother.

Terrible map pool and still not an appropriate amount of weapon bans.
But who cares about it being early? If you don’t have the time to play, then don’t play; I’m sure missing a season won’t kill you.
Get rid of the gravelshit and put in gully/process. Everything is better than gravelshit.

someday we will have more unlocks on 6v6 than on HL. also playing the same map pool over and over again is boring, specially 2 dozens round maps like barnblitz

SmitZ: I played sniper in Wireplay..? The only Wireplay I recall playing was as scout with Toba for like 2 games. That does sound like me though, I’m not a fan of the whole sniper vs sniper thing and have been known to be a bit of a rager ;) Dunno where you got the “ragequit highlander” part from though. I was always focused on 6s, and only ever actually played with EG here and there if they needed me. Nice try though buddy!

Can someone tell me why the phlog is still banned? No really, I want an explanation on how this is banned but the axetinguisher is okay.

SmitZ, do you honestly call everyone bad who doesn’t agree with you on map choices? It’s my personal opinion that steel is boring and doesn’t fit in the dm/strategy balance TF2 has because it focuses /way/ too much on one aspect. But that’s just my personal opinion. No reason to insult me without any reason for something like that.
Steel doesn’t stop you shooting other people as far as I’m aware, and if the 2 aspects are dm and its a map that requires proper teamwork then isn’t it doing everything right?
Or do you just want to play without putting any thought into the game. Pretty sure it’s recogngised as one of the maps that works really well in hl…
