Thought I’d just add, I know for a FACT someone is going to bash me for picking a 450watt PSU that costs nearly £60, but trust me, thats the better option. ;)

2.66GHz Quad Core vs 2.66GHz Quad Core. Am I missing something? Because as far as im concerned, any performance difference there is going to be almost unmeasurably small.

the Real diffrence between retail and OEM is that with retail, you can keep installing windows using that key but at OEM means that when you change the motherboard, the OEM no longer functions, and is worthless

thats the reason an OEM costs alot less then a retail

No that is not true, that has nothing to do with it. You can reinstall a OEM how much you want.

Case: Antec 300 Gaming Case – £45.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-101-AN

Solid cheap choice, good 1, although I was certain it could be had cheaper :/

Power Supply: Corsair HX 450Watt Modular – £58.98
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-016-CS

450W isn’t much, but it certainly should suffice, and Corsair is excellent quality. Money well spent there. If you don’t need the modular cabling, go for the VX instead (but at 4 quid less, why would you?). Alternatively, the VX550 is only 10 quid more if you want some extra headroom/upgradability

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel P55 – £86.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-209-GI

Don’t know anything specific about this board, but P55 From gigabyte should be just fine. Not too expensive either

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz – £139.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-301-IN
This cooler also as its an OEM CPU (still works out cheaper than getting retail CPU)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-028-CM

keep in mind that OEM cpus sometimes have less overclocking headroom, but that’s only relevant if you intend to overclock. Also, the 7xx series don’t support hyperthreading (again not a biggie, but keep that in mind). The entry level i7 8xx (still LGA1156) is a good alternative if you have a bit more cash (and it also supports HT if you that’s what you want).

RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 – £94.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-169-CS

keep in mind that LGA1156 only has 2 memory lanes (not that it really matters performance wise), and as such should only use 2 or 4 memory modules (to enable dual channel operation). So go for 2x2GB or 4X2GB

Graphics Card: Point of View – Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 – £166.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-022-PV

Go for the HD4890 instead, cheaper and about the same performance, or even better, go for the HD5850, but that would require expanding your budget.
Also I wouldn’t go for the HD5770, the HD4870 has it beat on a performance to price ratio (although the HD5770 uses less power and makes less noise).

Hard Drive: Sony Optiarc 24x DVD-RW SATA – £18.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-038-OT

what about a hard drive ;).

i7 is MARGINALLY better, due to hyperthreading and triple channel RAM.

In real world performance, it’s oh.. about 2 fps? xD

You’re better off without hyperthreading a lot of the time too, at least, assuming the tests I saw of i5 vs i7 were right, and i7 will get phased out soon as the i5 is so much more worth it.

No that is not true, that has nothing to do with it. You can reinstall a OEM how much you want.

if your OEM came with a pc, it’ll reinstall as many times as you want, ON THAT PC.

Otherwise, it’s just the normal OS but without all the manuals and stuff I assume

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel P55 – £86.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-209-GI

I tried to build the very PC I am using now with this board. It broke when I tried to O/C

RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 – £94.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-169-CS

That’s for i7, too high a voltage, so will bugger up the mobo and dimms, and is triple channel

Graphics Card: Point of View – Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 – £166.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-022-PV

Not worth it now the 57xx series is out

Edit– Jesus christ triple post? :<
