I think we should really be pushing XChat as it is 100% free. Personally I like it better too.

To those who don’t want to install any software:

http://webchat.quakenet.org/

Quickest and probably simplest solution, if you need admin at #etf2l for example. Just enter your nickname and put #etf2l to channel.

You can use /join #channel for joining to other channels too.

Not that I bumped it less or more since it’s stickied.

Also no one hasn’t mentioned any web browser-solutions.. (except chatzilla, which is extension to firefox)

Sir

This is old school but still has a huge relevance.

This could probably be updated somewhat with new country channels if theyve changed.

Ou nice :)

for czech dudes, there is small info about irc/quakenet: http://www.2fort.cz/news.php?readmore=123

if you are lost, especially focus on this: http://www.mirc.cz/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=1&categories=IRC

From czech channels you can pick on of those:
#tf2pickup.cz – “czech pickup channel”
#tf2.cz – “czech community of TF2”
#slum – “steam; generally”
#esl.tf2 – “no comment ;))”

The other clients I usually list if someone ask for advice
mIRC – http://www.mirc.org/
Xchat – http://www.xchat.org/
Pidgin – http://www.pidgin.im/
Qip – http://qipim.com/en/
Irssi – http://www.irssi.org/
BitchX – http://www.bitchx.com/
ChatZilla – https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16
Opera – http://www.opera.com/
HydraIRC – http://www.hydrairc.com/ (thanks for mention this one in post below)
BersIRC – http://bersirc.free2code.net/index.php/home
MirandaIM – http://www.miranda-im.org/
Trillian – http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/
+ many more (google yourself)

Quoted from Moose

I’m sure all the Finns already know about the greatest Finnish invention ever, IRC. Here’s a few useful Finnish TF2 channels:

#tf2.fi
#thematsi

Also there are:

#tf2.ru (Russia)
#tf2.se (Sweden)

Pretty quiet though compared to the finnish channels and above stated.

Jarppa

Feacon

For finnish people, there’s pickup channel called #gather.fi (info in finnish) which is open for everyone who’s interested in 6v6.

#thematsi is only for experienced players.

Someone needs to gather all these channels to one list. :g

imho freeware/gnu/oss/fss softwares are always better option
xchat/mirc are not so good as they seems to…
… and recommend people to use programs after the trial period is quite like “go warez”.

“Try before Buy” is very good motto, but when it ends just only with the “Try” and never “buy”…. this is just simply stealing and disrespecting the developers of mIRC or xchat or any other software.

no offense, no flame….
cheers
