Basically I downloaded some episodes I went to play the first one witch hadn’t loaded properly e.g it didn’t have a little picture. My computer went crazy and said windows has a critical error save your work you are about to be logged off and my computer shuts down. Every time I log on even to my other administrator account or even
Guest account it does the same and switches off within 1 minute of logging in. The only way I can access my computer is to run in safe mode without networking. So I was wondering if I could wipe my computer in safe mode, I don’t have any anti virus stuff as I was about to download some after the episodes. I am running windows vista and I am prepared to change my os for windows xp as I don’t have the disk for vista.
Any help is greatly thanked
Hopefully my clan mates will we this :D

Thats what you get for downloading dodgey porn!!
Best thing to do is run in safemode and try a system restore from a day when you hadn’t downloaded those filthy filthy videos

Try system restore, then if it boots in safe mode with networking, get yourself some anti virus/spyware. (too late)

Did your machine ship with vista? is it a major oem build (hp dell etc)?

if yes to both questions, if you were not supplied with restore discs, their is probably a restore partition on your hard drive, which you can access when you first turn the computer on. If not contact whoever supplied your PC and they will send you/sell you restore discs.

if you have a vista sticker on your PC contact microsoft and they will send you replacement discs

if it is a pirate copy…..

I custom made this computer from pcspecialist and they installed windows vista for me and gave me the disk. This was about 2 years ago and i can’t find it but I do have a legit copy of xp around but then I’ll will struggle with installing drivers

ah so that explains why you were offline last night :D

in safemode, try going to “Run” and type “msconfig” and then go to the startup tab. Disable stuff with teh check boxes, as you never know, something dodgey may have added itself. After disabling stuff, try again.

if it’s still shutting down, try getting “Malwarebytes”. Google it and download, it’s free and it’s only like 1-2mb, so u should be able to download it before it switches off again. This program gets rid of alot of nasty stuff that can infect your computer and is worthwhile getting and running now and again.

if none of that works, signup to the cic forums like i told you to already :D. make a post and ned should be able to fix it for you as he’s good at stuff like that :D

Have you tried system rollback in safemode (to a point before you downloaded that dodgy porn)?

disabling all services under the startup tab in msconfig is generally a bad idea, as the list includes several vital components. Try enabling the microsoft components and restart. You may need to enable/disable components a few times to find a combination that allows your computer to function, while still preventing the restart.

sounds like the good old virus Blaster.
If you want to abort the automatic shutdown, open a command prompt and type “shutdown -a”.

Browse any of the popular antivirus vendors (symantec, norton etc.) i believe most of them offer a standalone, free of charge, fix for the blaster-virus (as it used to be a quiet big pain in the ass for unpatched XPs a few years ago)
