i40 coverage?

i’m pretty sure dunc left a lovely comment on cadred, but let me run over it again.
first lan, first time on the mainstage:
What you CAN hear:
– Some of your in-game sounds
– Cube’s microphone
– The crowd
– Byte’s voice
– Fragmovie music when spence fucks up xxxxx
What you CAN’T hear:
– Most of your in-game sounds
– Everyone else’s microphones
– Slick trying to cheer us on
– Byte’s words (you could hear him, but not understand him)
– Dave
basically, byte’s casting didn’t effect the game in the slightest. well, the only time i could imagine it did was because he called “they haven’t seen the demoman backcapping”. in this situation it’s amazingly stupid to call byte a “shit caster” because he called this for two reasons:
1. We honestly could not hear a fucking thing.
2. Dignitas are (apparently) a good team. If they saw the little x1 on the bottom of their screen, the point would’ve probably been blocked anyway.
byte is, frankly, one of, if not THE best TF2 caster we have. he gets excited over seeing two of the best teams in EU play, which is what most other casters (through every game) fail at. sure he shouts at the microphone for an hour, but that’s what makes the commentary exciting. his casting style allows lower division/public players follow what’s happening without getting confused and/or scrolling through the players all match (sorry if i offend any lower div players there).
tl;dr: stop hating on byte. if you think you can get up on stage and cast a one and a half hour game without getting bored or making mistakes, cu@i41. haters gonna hate.

You literally can hear nothing but shouting + an incredibly muffled commentary (can’t pick out any words). It’s probably worse with a big crowd too, the call obviously affected nothing because all spies etc. generally worked

I wanna see some pale nerds and put names to faces!
There is literally nothing to be seen of the final as far as photo’s go. It was 12 nerds sitting at PC’s for an hour and a half with a massive crowd of other nerds watching, that’s about it.
Would love to see some actual normal photos’s people took. Cobby (from BoX) had some great surprise photo’s of our group with his SLR, hopefully he’ll have some equally good photos of the rest of the event.
Thats really what this event and i39 were about, having a laugh with people you know but irl, there just happened to be a cartoon game tournament during it for a bit of fun. :)

Shame you somehow managed to hear the casters telling everyone we had a spy about to stab you with uber at i37 ((((
After reading Vomtaz’s post i think that i was a bit harsh on Byte, as i must admit i completly forgot the fact that diggy and team wai where actually focusing hard on the game, plus had headsets on, plus had the roar of the crowd going on.
However, at the time, some of it just sounded like “IF THEY HEARD THAT WOW”
Do agree that at least Byte was enthusiastic and knows enough to cast, and makes it so that non-players can know what is going on, even if Diggy werent pushing when they should (mirite Byte?)

Yeah, but the girl walking around on the stage must definately have taken more than 7 pictures. But perhaps they haven’t been uploaded yet or maybe mixed in between some of the other pictures.
Hello ETF2L!
First, yes, there’s FAR more than 7 pictures taken for the TF2 final. How many? 1435 pictures total from the 3 maps played. I’m NeoThermic, you might’ve seen me shooting for the final map of the three, with Shezomb shooting the first two.
I’ve just got back from i40’s packdown, and Shezomb is *still* travelling, so as you can understand we’ve not yet had any major time to edit pictures! Since you lot created the heft of the views on the MPUK flickr account yesterday, I’ll make sure to make the TF2 finals a priority for editing.
For those who might not realise the work that coverage of the event is, there’s a schedule of the shooting that is required, and it went like this for i40:
Friday: Opening Ceremony
Saturday: L4D2, DJ Dev, EVE meet, pub quiz and boat race
Sunday: WCG finals, CoD finals, TF2 finals, CS:S finals, Starcraft 2 finals
Monday: BFBC2 finals, raffle, packdown
There was three of us shooting, and for some of the events we co-shot. Editing time is about 1000 pictures an hour to rate, and then about another hour or so to edit and publish. We’re rather critical of our shots, so the result rate should mean you’ll get 143 amazing photos of the final, give or take.
As for the fact that there were 45 CS:S final shots, TBH the winning team was boring enough that it made getting more than 450 shots very difficult (especially with the near-wipe they did). For them, it’s rather simple to rate & upload, but the TF2 match was very nearly the biggest match of the event, so more care is required on what we do editing wise (you lot were slightly edged out by the SC2 final, sorry!)
Anyway, enough rambling, I’ll get on to rating & editing and you should begin to see more pictures tomorrow. I’ll also post here when I’ve done them.
In closing, the TF2 people rock. One more map!
