Yo,

idk how many of you (who downloaded the HUD) actually noticed, but:

There’s also a materials folder included – and in this folder there’s a translucent texture for the health cross which replaces the default health cross – the grey, solid one.

m0rehud uses a translucent health cross aswell, but yeah – not really a cross but more a from 3 rectangles patched together cross. This method works, yes, but it makes the cross look weird on different resolutions and totally counters the whole approach of making the HUD resolution independent.

So, now the big problem: As some may have noticed, on pure 2 servers (war-servers!), the texture gets blocked and shows the solid grey default one. Which sucks, because the translucent has some benefits besides looking generally better, e.g. not blocking your view, letting the warn red thingy shine through (as seen here: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/93/66934957.jpg), etc..

I already wrote an Email to Robin Walker regarding this; I asked him if Valve may integrate my file into the game cache files, but he hasn’t replied yet. And that was 3 (?) days ago.

So, now comes the part where I need YOU, the guys who like my HUD and want to support me in making it better:

Please click this link: http://www.valvesoftware.com/email.php?recipient=Robin%20Walker&subject=request%20regarding%20broeselhud, insert your Email address, write a nice text for Robin and send it to him :)

a thing you should mention btw is that the file has just 22KB

I would really like to have this clarified before releasing version 1.1, so please support me and send Robin Walker an Email! Maybe he will not ignore it anymore then, like he did with my request :(

TL;DR: you want to support my HUD? click this http://www.valvesoftware.com/email.php?recipient=Robin%20Walker&subject=request%20regarding%20broeselhud and tell Robin why Valve should integrate my HP cross in the game files :)

Do I really understand this right and you are trying to ask Valve to order every TF2 player to download your health cross?

it has 22KB lol

should Valve really integrate it with the next update, it’s probably 1‰ of the whole update…

…you don’t understand the point.
it’s a community work. if you are the first (which i highly doubt), then they will have to consider letting every applicant to have their work in the official package.
if that material file you are talking about has an identically named clone in cache, then they will not only have to add it to package, but let people have an easy way to choose between these two.

where i can i get this crosshair?
Is it possible to use it on a server with etf2l-config?

you don’t know how the TF2 HUD works, do you? :>

let me explain:
It uses fields, and those fields have certain attributes depending on what type the field is, if it’s an “ImagePanel” there is either the ‘image’ or the ‘fillcolor’ attribute required for it to do something.

In this case, it’s the image attribute and it refers to “../hud/health_bg”. I could substitute this with ANY texture file in the gcf.

Valve would just have to rename my file to something different than “health_bg” – health_bg_translucent or whatever. It would be there as an OPTION FOR HUD CREATORS who want to have a healthcross in their HUD, but not a solid grey one – like me ;)

flame

useless. if theyre going to add a semitransparent cross for no reason other than your hud they might as well add the billion things I would use to just recreate the quakelive hud..

work around it.

and that crosshair blows, mines better 8)

<3 your hud, great job :D

Please update your screenshots if you’ve changed something. Actually, take new captures of all features with identical screens for both modes, if possible.

At least last time I checked the HUD, I had really no reason to change to this from m0rehud as most new features were minor and few things that mattered to me were actually worse.
Those changes to spy’s and engie’s menus I could just copy and edit for myself, though I hardly even play those classes anyway. Why the scoreboards are so big I still can’t tell; if there’s some good reason for that, maybe make smaller ones as an option. Kill messages were way too big for my taste, and if they still are: option. The lack of that flashing overheal/low health cross, even as an option, wasn’t a good thing either. Again, if you’ve made some major changes, I’d like to see it just by watching the screenshots page.

If you can somehow pull off at least something I mentioned, then I too would think it as “updated m0rehud”. :)
