Cheating, unsportsmanlike or just damn fine thinking?

So your pushing last, uber ready and away you go. Defendng medic uses his uber but dies in the uber exchange. You fail to cap but retreat safe in the knowledge your uber is up first.
Surviving defending player nips into spawn, changes to medic and that hard won uber advantage is lost because of a cheeky tweeky of the rules.
But hey, as long as the admins say it’s cool, then I s’pose it’s cool!
This idea has crossed my mind several times in the past, yet I always assumed it was considered cheating in some way. Well, maybe not cheating, but I don’t think it’s fair anyway. On the other hand, if it is allowed, I don’t see no harm in trying this out.
also, this seems to give the defending team an advantage in some ways.

afaik this won’t work in the ESL since they added fixed class limits to their configs and you can’t give the medic spot away untill you respawn.
^ the ETF2L enforces a similar set of rules. they just don’t enforce it due the config to give a team the chance to go temporally medic when theirs going to drop/lag out.

It shouldn’t be disallowed- if the players in question are versatile enough to not be a disadvantage to their team as the other class (and a lot of medics would be as solly/demo/scout ;D) then fair enough imo. Especially if you’re holding last and want to try and get Übercharge before the other team pushes in a team should be allowed to switch a player if their medic just died. We’ve not once done this but if a team wants to win badly enough to make this work then you just need to stfu and worry about your own team imo.

it shouldn’t be allowed it’s stupied.
Getting your uber 10-15 seconds earlier than would have been possible without this cheeky tweeky, is certainly not stupid. Surviving an uber push because of it is not stupid. It is not stupid!
why even think this is cheating or unsportsmanlike ?
if a team dares to take this risk and switch core classes it should be rewarded for it, if they manage to defend the last cp for example they’ll have a hard time pushing anyway
why even think this is cheating or unsportsmanlike ?
It just seemed a bit…… wrong, I s’pose. Every team works hard to take down the enemy medic to gain that few second uber advantage. This ‘tactic’ does it’s best to make that effort less meaningfull.
I just wanted to check it was ok as we have a few players who can multi class so we wouldn’t have a hard time pushing because, say medic and scout have swopped for a bit.
I think it should be allowed, but i guess it can be kind of “abused”.
Sending in a kamikaze demo on towards last point on granary for example, while having one of our scouts wait in the forward respawn quickly to spawn a second demoman if the kamikaze one dies. On the other hand, these types of tactics would require players to play reasonably well with more than one class.. but i am a bit torn here :)
Cheating: No
Unsportsmanlike: No
Damn fine thinking: Yes, but so was playing with 2 demomen way back in the days.
I wouldn’t mind a public vote and a rule to be made for/against this way of playing.

It certainly opens up new ways to attack last, I mean you could have 2 suicide demo’s then a third to cap for god’s sake. It is indeed open to abuse/new tactics. Seems a mighty blurry line to me!
I pretty sure this is legal.
It was debated at the time the class limit cvars were added and no one had any strong objections.
I’ve played a game vs. hboda some time ago on freight. they were using it. Even if our sniper managed to kill their medic (hs/fullcharge whatever) on the last point, the time we regroup and push (~5 sec) they have already switched, then got medic + hw + sentry on last etc and be able to defend… that’s how the round ended by stalemate… twice
Cheating : obvisouly no
unsportsmanlike or fine thinking : probably a mix of both…

as the medic or demo is limited to 1 for a good reason
they’re limited to 1 so you can’t play 2 at once
changing class while your medic or demo dies still means that 2 can’t play at once
If there is a hard limit in tournament mode, it means you can’t change class while you are spawning (you can change, but you’ll still be set as the class you died as, until you actually spawn, then you change) – so other people couldn’t take medic while you were spawning. But I don’t think most people play with the hard limits set on, people just expect people to play with the limits.
edit: someone probably already explained this..
