The Postman

I always idle on tf2.mentor, but there’s never anyone there, apart from a strange person who wants css mixes.

Maybe we should decide about some precise time when people are recommended to go there ?
I think I will go there to have a look tonight, both as mentor and to be mentored.

Its #tf2mentor not #tf2.mentor

I am getting various people offering to mentor, but i am going to be honest, we can’t just accept all people that offer to be a mentor.

It’s to help clans or players wanting to learn about their class more.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Why cannot you accept all candidates for mentors ?
It seems to be too few mentors at the moment and not too many, right ?

Or is the problemt that you think many people are not competent enough ?
Ok, this I could understand, but if someone is mentoring someone else, the mentored guy should decide for himself if the advices are ok or not. It’s not like someone has to follow the advice given.

Or is there some other reason for not allowing too many mentors that I don’t think about ?

Aye mate i am all for equality and fairness but the whole point is to give guidance, and whether or not the guy picks a mentor by choice doesn’t change the fact that the mentor he chose may not be a “good” mentor. By that i mean that 1 mentor could say something which is supposedly correct yet lets say a “higher” experienced mentor totally disagrees… theres a fine line of what to accept and what not to accept.

Then the guy who is being taught could come back and say well “your mentor said this” blah blah…

So the best way around the whole “i don’t see why i can’t be a mentor just because i’m not div1/2” theory is to allow the “majority” to be mentors but only for certain things, otherwise you might as well just use irc and pm the guy you wanted to mentor you in the first place than organise a whole website/irc for it?

Could do with some help with this “project” as it were, am doing my very best in helping out people and clans so far i’ve mentored for OverGame and phail clan…

Both very happy i hope. Need a few more mentors to offer themselves please and also if somoene is able to build up a nippy website nothing fancy just so i can put info about what a tf2mentor does and where you can find them and a ratings page/info page of the mentors so you can see what they specialise in.

Any helpers please contact me on irc will be on this evening :-)

We need more people like Byte helping teams and players to improve. Nice to hear that some mentoring actually has been taking place.
There have to be a lot of people knowing how to get a website up ?

I might not be qualified as a mentor for a team, but if there are any beginners wanting to learn basic stuff about the soldier, feel free to add me.

Wow this is great, I applaud all the mentors & byte…nice community effort.
Just heard about this yesterday when I was wondering why someone from Imperial would watch a low+ pcw ^.^
Maybe some more…”advertising” for this is needed.

I think Iller best thing is just as long as the mentor is not a new public tf2 player i.e. he’s played in a league he can become a mentor, however if his ratings are low (this is where the website comes in you see) – he will no longer be a mentor based on the votings from the players/clans that we’re mentored :-)

The clan that requested for a mentor gets to rate that mentor out of say 5, if by the end of a period of months he’s got a good rating then people will know why and see that he’s/she’s an obvious choice, for a particular mentor’ing role.

In this case numlocked has 5 stars already for emo’ness :X <3 :P
