Nations’ Cup Final: Finland vs. Sweden

Tonight perennial tournament favourites Finland will defend their trophy against their strongest and, seemingly, only serious competitor Sweden in the 2nd ETF2L Nations Cup Final. With thirty countries participating this was the largest nations cup ever organized in the Team Fortress 2 scene. After a group stage and three matches in the play-offs only two countries remain to face each other in a thrilling best-of-three match.

In the first Nations Cup, Finland and Sweden faced each other in the semi-finals where Finland showed that they were the better team in two maps, before going on to beat Belgium in an easy final (3-0). This year Belgium was kicked out by Germany in the first round of the play-offs, while Sweden sent Germany home (2-0) one round later in the Quarter Finals. Neither Finland nor Sweden have had too many difficulties making their way to the final. However, they both faced some resistance in the semi-finals in the form of Norway and England respectively, but in the end both Finland and Sweden managed to win these matches in only two maps.

Line-ups

The roster of the Swedes is almost identical to that of last year, with players from top teams like Team Dignitas, Power Gaming and the former Team Coolermaster. Team Finland takes their players from the same range of teams: Dignitas, Power Gaming and illegal, however, they have lost two players from their old roster. Whether this will have a significant impact on their performance against a team like Sweden remains to be seen.
