Highlander Nations Cup #1: Finland vs Sweden

Tonight’s the night we get to see the final match of the first Highlander Nations Cup here at ETF2L. It features two teams packed with top Highlander players from Season 2 ( colony,  SNSD and  May Contain Nuts), that have had a rivalry throughout competitive TF2’s history. The winner of this game will get an all important bronze pixel trophy on their team page, and the losers will get nothing! The maps will be chosen before the game by the teams. This game is going to be casted by Skully and Comedian at VanillaTV.

Staff Changes

We are sad to announce that long time Head Admin Crasp is stepping down from his position as admin. He has done a lot for this league in the 3 years of being an admin, and we wish him good luck in his final year of University.

Unfortunately Miek, Oxy and  Greg are also resigning from the admin team, we wish all of them the best of luck for the future.

The recent staff changes have opened several vacancies amongst 6v6 admins. If you want to take part in shaping the future of ETF2L, check out the full list and send in an application!

With Crasp leaving, this leaves a Head Admin position free. We are happy to announce that this spot is being taken by emb, who has proven to be extremely hard working and efficient recently.

Additionally we welcome ipz and  skeej to the Staff as part of our newly formed PR and Sponsorship team. Their focus will be to attract sponsors and coordinate coverage.

Schedule

Summer and our two Nations Cups are almost over, i46 is at the doorstep – time to prepare for the next big TF2 event! The 13th Season of our 6v6 league will once again be sponsored by Tt eSPORTS and the signups will open very soon!

• Signups: August 22 – September 7
• Provisional divisions will be announced until Monday, September 10
• Week 1 starts on Sunday, September 16

You can start scheduling your week 1 matches as soon as the final divisions have been announced to be ready to play when week 1 starts on September 16. Further information regarding the map pool, unlock rules and prizes will follow in later newsposts in the next days.

Signups

The number of signups is variable but has to be a power of 8. We will try to give everyone a spot in the league but to be on the safe side you should sign up early. All teams that sign up after the sign up deadline or do not get a slot in the league because they were one of the last teams that signed up are moved to the waiting list and will replace dropping teams as soon as possible during the first three play weeks.

Applying for divisions

For the seeding, the pro- and demotions will be relevant (as usual). If you created a new team or feel you can jump a division, feel free to apply for the desired division anyway. To prove you are capable of the division you applied for, we require you to submit screenshots of recent practice wars or tournaments where you scored decent results against teams that play on the level you aim for. There is no magical number of screenshots you have to submit, just submit what you have.

Please note that the success of your request mainly depends on the free slots in the division you aim for as established teams will be favoured over new teams or teams that request to jump a division. The screenshots have to be uploaded to an online photo album (for example you can use imgur or Dropbox), zipped archives with tons of pictures attached to an email will be ignored. Please send your application to [email protected].

The division application has to include the following information in order to be considered. Incomplete applications will be ignored!

After over a month of fighting against other nations in the first Highlander Nations Cup, only two teams remain – France and Germany. Before this tournament began, not many people would have predicted either of these teams to reach the final, let alone both of them. Germany saw off tournament favourites Sweden in the semi final, and France beat a Finnish team that many expected to face Sweden in the final. The winners of this game will receive £972 and the runners up will win £225 due to a generous donation from an anonymous donor, and with money at stake, expect both teams to want to win this that much more! As we all know, Sunday is the best day to play videogames! Tonight we will have a lot of matches starting with Denmark against Israel. Israel had an easy way through the Group Stage, not losing a single game, while Denmark lost 6 points to Sweden. Both teams look very strong with many famous names like quad, F2, Natural, p0Le, Retsh0ck and matnuN and each team is a mix of high-tier players but undeniably, Israel is the favourite to advance to the next round.

The Portuguese team has many players from the ex-premiership team eQuilibrium, while Belgium is the home of the successful map maker Arnold and some other TF2 pro’s like Luzzu and droso. We might not see Portugal in its full glory yet because they managed to play only 1 game in the Group Stage, however having such a good previous game history, they have no reason to be scared of this match.

The Latvians had a hard time in the Group Stage gathering players and obeying all the rules, maybe now they can turn things around and show that they can defend their national pride and fight for the win against Finland who have a team capable of making 2 premiership teams out of their players.

The Americans had a bit of a hard time during the Group Stage because they could not field a team for their match against Croatia. With players like enigma and harbleu they had no problem to win the rest of their matches, of course. Spain have some big names as well, counting HarryHook, sraam and Jan. They obviously stand a chance winning, deathmatch will be the key to success in this match.

Another big game of the 6v6 Nations Cup Round 1 is between France and Netherlands. France being the favourite for this match, the Netherlands have a lineup of several veterans as well who are eager to advance into the Quarter Finals.

Tonight we will see the very first game of the 6v6 Nations Cup Playoff Stage, starting with Russia and Sweden. Both teams have big names in their roster, starting with uV Gaming on the Russian side and ending on Zebbosai and wltrs. Unfortunately Sweden still let’s their div 4 medic, TheSucker, play in officials.

Germany had an easy way through the Group Stage, annihilating their opponents each match, will they continue their win-march through the Playoffs? How will Poland respond to this? Lately they have added Nor, one of the best Polish scouts of his time to their roster, maybe that’s the change they needed to face the Germans with their premiership players.
