You can’t do comp ctf without doing turbine all over. It’s the one and only way of playing ctf competitively.
TF2maps.net had a competition a while ago, but none of the maps were really taken seriously for one reason: ctf sucks unless it’s not turbine.
If you still feel confident, I’d be glad to help you out ith feedback and ideas though – I loved luxor from the very start and I dont doubt youll be able to make something out of of the sadly broken ctf gamemode. Try this for some inspiration: http://compctf.tf2maps.net/
On CTF maps if you banned heavy and engineer it would be lotsa more fun! No camping around, just push push PUUUUSH!

Or even better – only scouts allowed!
just a silly thought: how about a mix? both teams have to capture 1 or 2 points first before being able to get the intel (capture point -> door(s) open). after capturing the intel, these doors close again. this would reduce (sentry-)turtling i guess, but i’m not sure if the match will be fast paced or not.
and i’m not sure if it’s possible to put ctf/cp-stuff together …
edit: naah, after capturing the intel, the round should end. otherwise some players can be trapped between the doors :P
the concept (paint + netbook ftw): http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/42/unbenanntkz.jpg

If you want to make a good ctf map there are a couple of guidelines that you need to follow in order for the map to be successful, IMO:
– The quickest way to get to your opponent’s intel must not be through the opponent’s respawn area (Turbine does this well)
– There must be chokes without roofs (great for forcing action)
– Put the intel on a small, easily climbed spire. You know you want to.
– Make engineer terrible as much as humanly possible
A lot of these maps actually played well, but failed to break into … well anything. I recommend trying out:
– Deliverance
– Converge
– Overlook
– Fusion
– Wildfire
There are also some A/D CTF maps that are great here too, particularly
– Slate
– Haarp
– Vector
Though I reckon Slate is best-suited for competitive play personally.
A lot of these maps, in fact probably all of them, do not play like standard CTF. Some have touch return, some have capture at flag, and some are invade ctf. I’ve personally had some really good games on Converge, I’d highly recommend somebody at least checks it out.
I’d also point out that these maps were tested to absolute death. Some still don’t play perfectly, some are a bit framey, but most of the mechanics were worked out to the best they could be. I’m personally not a fan of touch return, nor quick return, because they slow the game down and cause low-scoring stalemates – it’s like ubering to get into the flag room, getting the flag out, but then somebody drops it and you’re back to square one.

NO CTF in comp. TF2, k thx
play some funcups or whatsoever.. any system or any version of ctf is just not what 6v6 TF2 is made for. It’s boring uber-camping..
so, let’s make comp tf2 more popular by addnig ctf instant flag return maps for 5×5 with class limit 1? :)
most LAN organisators are aimed on 5×5 games and has not rows of 6*n pcs.
of course, it’s already impossible to change game so much, waiting tf3.
but, I’d like to play scout 2×2 cups on ctf, or solly 2×2 with 999999hp.
stop your breweries and I’ll try.
btw, I live in town, called Brovary. can’t stop drinking beer.

I was aware of that map competition and had already looked through a couple of the top vote maps. Right now I really doubt I should even begin with a ctf map seeing the amount of hostility but if the community would really think Turbine is the only ctf map capable of competetive play then that is in my opinion a bit childish. If people like turbine with the new rules, there is hope for ctf. A classic game mode in many FPS’s and I have yet to see a solid reasonwhy this can’t be true for TF2.

I updated the OP, I can’t write in pictures and I hate MSpaint so people will have to take my word for it. I am not sure about a spire for the intell though, It would be easy for soldiers and such to just stad on top of it to defend. But I am sure I can think of something equally hellish for enginiers.

I think touch return is a bit extreme and I don’t want to make ctf more complicated by adding conditions before you can cap. I just want to make a map where you can always find an opening to attack from, even without über if needed.

Having you say this is quite a kick in the teeth to be honest, but your post seems rather impulsive too. If I were to describe Turbine then yes I would call it boring uber-camping most of the time, but does that mean the ctf format cannot be used to form something especially suited for comp tf2? as long as camping the intelligence becomes a bad option and if there is some way around the enemies’ main force I just can’t see what the problem is.
Yes of cource I want to defend my idea but if any one, epecially you or another league admin could give me a solid reason why not to bother with ctf I will let the idea go.

im not an admin but 1 reason is the fact most of the players hate ctf…think that is quite a valid point =P
