the fan-jumps are a bit imba though.. a scout being able to jump up at the crates in the middle of granary without any self damage or such is just bananas :)

but i am just jealous.. i want to be a scout :(

Two scouts with a scattergun getting you killed isn’t annoying at all, because you know it takes some skill to do so.
A fan hitting you for 15 dmg and freezing you on the spot, leaving you vulnerable to spam, isn’t my idea of skill.

and now that valve have fixed that people can stop moaning about the fan.

They didn’t fix it. Shouldn’t stun at all below 75dmg.

Actually, I can agree to this.

The reason I’m in opposition to the FAN isn’t because it’s annoying, and leaving my argument there. Scouts have to hit center model to do maximum damage. This is the core of the scout’s skill ceiling in aiming. With the FAN, the first shot is all about hitting the opponent, because afterwards you have, roughly, a guaranteed 100 damage shot as long as you hit the first shot, irrelevant of its damage, and that reduces the skill ceiling while having the same reward (and perhaps even increasing the reward, as even if you meatshot someone you won’t mess up their aim or movement), essentially two-shotting someone. In conjunction with the pistol, this combination is more lethal than it should be in the hands of lesser skilled players, compared to the lethality of the scattergun.

I’m all for alternative playstyles, but as far as I’m concerned the knockback shouldn’t work unless it actually was a meatshot in the first place, so I’m not a fan of the FAN.

^ this. I like the hit’n’run idea of the gun, but as long as it works just as well/better than the normal scatter in a head-on style of play in most situations, I consider it broken.

You agree with me? Stop the presses. But yeah this is my main gripe with it.

But this wont convince people though, they just say “zomg shoot back then”. But they forget that he can fire his 2 shots faster than I can do mine. Even if I hit a perfect meatshot with my scattergun on this fast moving target, I wouldn’t be able to finish him off. Unless he’s total shit ofc. But it’s not a fair fight.

Easier said than done when they only need like 35dmg.

I’m yet to meet one that can out-smart bullets, baerbel. :)))

This is imo the only good argument against the FaN that is left. 2shotting scouts from closerange with the FaN might be a bit to easy. So a fix might be nice but a ban is to much in my opinion.

The point is that the FaN has an enormous drawback by having only 2 bullets. So its logically that it will need a big advantage to make it a viable alternative. After shooting your 2 shots the weapon will have a disadvantage on the scattergun. So to be balanced the FaN will need to be stronger on his first 2 shots. So its obvious that it will need to be easier to 2shot.
And in my opinion having added movement options is an advantage that is not as bad as screwing rocket and stickyjumps from any distance. The reason some people complain is that the movement a scout gains with the FaN is not fair towards soldiers(who need to do selfdamage for it). However I dont think that argument is a good one since first of all the scout will lose 1 of his 2 shots, so the jumping wont help much in combat. And second, this is a teamgame and not class vs class, so unless the movent options totally screw up gameplay(think stunning ubers) or is absurdly overpowered in combat I see no reason to opose it.
People will need to accept that new weapons have advantages.

I’d vote for a ban. All the reasons above are correct. Even I can play scout well with the fan and my aim is disgusting!

I have played medic a lot, about 300h in matches and lately the FaN has become annoying, a half-decent scout can get you up in the air with the first shot and kill you with the second, you cant run, you cant dodge, really annoying.

Certainly the idea that less ammo should yield an increase in damage, but the idea that you only have to do 40 damage on a shot to set up for execution doesn’t make it fair to any scattergun user who doesn’t have the ability to set up a perfect shot by just grazing the opponent, and has to compensate for it with better aim.

Your argument doesn’t justify the knockback, though I certainly agree on the damage. I just believe that it should be removed unless the knockback will only take effect upon meatshots, and could be increased during those instances for all I care.

I played against good FaN scouts as medic. And there were few times where I thought: “I died because of the Fan and would not have died if it was the scattergun”. However there were multiple times where the 2 fan shots would not kill me, and after that the FaN scout is pretty much dead if you have any half decent soldiers.

Since added damage is not really important in scout vs scout I do think that my argument justifies knockback for easier 2shots. However like I said, you are also correct and the requirement of only hitting for 20 damage for an easy 2shot makes it a bit to easy. Fixing the knockback might be pretty hard though, since any form of knockback will interupt your movent and make you predictable. Matching the firing speed to that of the scattergun might do it, but that will open up other problems.
