If you want to see quality games, make the map pool 5-6:ish maps
nobody can be arsed to go through 10 maps
this.
PS: Freight sucks.

That means people hating granlands would have to agree to play them anyway.

You are not going to find a map pool that pleases everyone, so the best thing is to find the middleground, which will very probably include granlands.
Granlands are overplayed, but still the best tf2 maps
Badlands
Granary
Gullywash
Obscure
Jump_adventure
Gravlepit
Turbine (2 caps = round win or somthing like that else leave it out)

Like WirePlay did with their CTF maps during the 7v7 season? That was good, although tbh neither the ETF2L way (one round, unlimited caps – most after 30 mins wins) or the other way (2 caps for round win, most round wins after 30 mins wins) aren’t the problem with CTF maps. I find the main problem is that CTF maps is that if you get rolled, you get rolled for 30 mins — if you get rolled on, say, Badlands you’ll probably be finished by 10-15 mins. Teams who are 5-0 up (in either case) will turtle their intel even if there is like 20 minutes left on the clock.
Turbine is a good 6v6 maps, although I wouldn’t mind the ETF2L exploring the custom CTFs that TF2maps.net had a contest on last year, iirc. WirePlay used three maps from that contest in their 7v7 season (Cloudburst, Converge and Wildfire) out of the three, I’d pick Wildfire as it was traditional CTF with a couple of twists (your intel needs to be at your cap point and dropped intel can be immediately returned by a friendly player standing on it).
Map pool sizes are probably strong enough at 10, granlands will probably be a must. Although 90% of a competitive players’ time will be on these two maps, they’re popular for a reason.
It would be nice to see:
cp_freight
cp_granlands
cp_gravelpit
cp_gorge
cp_gullywash
cp_obscure

Anyone suggesting to have a big map pool is retarded why alienate all the new players by giving them too many maps to learn ?

Good point, but we don’t want to alienate all the old geezers, (with the same old same old), who have been around for ever either now do we?
