It’s better to talk offtopic than to spam the thread about it being offtopic. Especially when the original topic has already been discussed.

“Why should stickies do 150 damage?”
Why should they not?

Well, if stickies should do 150 damage when you stand directly on them, surely rockets should do it as well (when you run straight into it). It’s fairly easy to dodge rockets, definitely easier than stickies (as the demoman will detonate them when they’re close to you, whereas the rocket always will fly in a straight line and only detonate on impact). Also you have more stickies than rockets, and you can fire more stickies faster than rockets. So surely rockets should do at least as much damage as stickies.

Let soldiers have 150 damage rockets and let them be able to detonate them when they’re still flying in the air! :P Tell me that’s not overpowered.

if you try to dodge the sticky, it wont do 150hp on you. More like 60-70. 150hp stickies happen if you’re standing still. trying to get those pretty airgibs for your frag vid or whatever. If you see the demo coming, he wont be doing 150hp per sticky. If you dotn see the demo coming, you deserve the rape coming your way.

and sollies can have that kind of rockets when they have to charge the shot, and fire them indirectly. (f2)

Yeah and if you dodge rockets they do 20-30 damage. Your point is?

Just out of pure interest, this is not up for debate.

Which would you rather the demoman have..

150dmg per sticky
80-110 per gren

Or

125dmg (max) sticky
90-145dmg per gren

Or

140dmg sticky
Close range: 100-135dmg gren
Long range: 70-90dmg gren

Just remember the sticky itself if u sit on it like an egg as Agron said u deserve to get a battering.

Cheers

Well, if a soldier shoots a rocket on the middle of badlands from one train towards the other, and you catch that rocket (not splash damage but a direct hit), don’t you deserve battering just as much as when a demoman shoots a sticky from one train to the other and you walk past it and he clicks a button? Explain why not.

Demoman is designed to be a better spammer than Soldier. Soldier is designed to be a better Scout buster than Demoman.

Soldier is designed to be a better Scout buster than Demoman.

The soldier takes 60-70 self-damage on every rocket trying to kill a scout up close… how is that a scout buster?

And besides, I just watched the latest demo on cadred (4K vs CC on badlands) and the stats are:

hymzi killed masiina 4 times
hymzi killed bybben 3 times
Punpu killed masiina 2 times
Punpu killed bybben 2 times
Moose killed masiina 3 times
Moose killed bybben 4 times

Mick killed Jambo 5 times
Mick killed Glufse 4 times
Abom killed Jambo 3 times
Abom killed Glufse 5 times
ryb killed Jambo 4 times
ryb killed Glufse 2 times

So on average each soldier killed 7 scouts and each demoman killed 6.5 scouts.

I really don’t think your argument is valid.

F2: I think he means that soldiers are scout busters in DM combat/medic defense. A lot of the soldier kills on scouts occurred not because the scouts tried to kill the soldiers, but because the scouts went for the medic and failed.

F2

Danmark

Yes, the majority of a soldier’s kills on scouts are because the scouts go for the medic. That doesn’t say anything about “a soldier being a better scout buster than demo”, though.

within infight a soldier is the better scoutbuster

he just needs to shot the ground near the scout a few times…

the demo can only use grenades due to the delay of the stickies so need to hit the scout direct what is ways harder than killing the scout by splash damage

and f2 sry but taking only 1 match as reference is not significant

No, the demo can’t only use grenades. Sure, if the scout comes up in his face grenades will be the best choice, but with 150dmg stickies he can in most situations deny the scout from coming close, and if the scout does indeed get close he will have taken damage and will be instagibbed by one grenade.

taking only 1 match as reference is not significant

It was a close match (4-3) by two great teams, so it seemed like a fair reference – definitely better than “it was designed to be like that so therefore it is okay”.

If you think that my findings are not representing the majority of close matches between great teams, then I encourage you to try doing the same with another 10 demos.

And btw, I’m just arguing the case that stickies shouldn’t do 150 damage compared to rockets’ damage. I still haven’t heard a good reason for that yet. Some people say “if you’re stupid enough to go past a sticky, then you deserve 150 damage”. Well, if you’re stupid enough to catch a long-range direct rocket then you only deserve 50-60 damage? Explain.

“Demoman is designed to be a better spammer than Soldier. Soldier is designed to be a better Scout buster than Demoman.”

Demoman is deffo a better spammer. Your second point is only valid if you mean a pocket soldier, ie one who escorts the medic around. On his own a soldier is weaker than a scout and far weaker than a demoman. In fact, in our recent scrims we’ve played a pocket heavy and he’s by far a better scout buster than a pocket soldier. Put simply, a soldier without a medic is the weakest class in competitive TF2.
