If r_aspectratio should be banned, then by the same logic fov_desired and all but one monitor aspect ratio should be banned too.
That’d be consistent. The current state isn’t. Personally I’d like all of them allowed.
Why? You can play with a widescreen resolution on a 4:3 screen, it looks just as stupid as aspectratio, but it works. The good thing now is you can’t use some scripts that turn aspectratio to 10 and back to 0 to just have everything in sight.
It also seems that VALVe might be adding some cvars to improve competitive play in one of the next updates (not only disabling weapon model, but also disabling random damage and other things maybe). VALVe asked one guy of the american competitive community for suggestions, and the most requested things that the competitive community want have been sent to VALVe.
then its all down to.. can we trust the americans!?!)!
Sounds cool AnAkIn!
I think it’s great that Valve are taking these firm actions to clear up the grey areas.
Especially as we are trying to push competitive TF2 forward as an e-sport.
“play what you want cause a gamer is free….” :D
<- wants to get back home to try the stuff out. Friggin eMacs w/ shit keyboards here (you need to sit on SPACE to get it actually register…).
also, do want the %age in minimal hud too plx then. kthx
peace out

“VALVe asked one guy of the american competitive community for suggestions”
…I really hope that 1 guy asked hte opinions of others too. Imagine if Valve asked for example Fragga how to improve the game. We’d be playing Soldier Fortress 2 suddenly :x
@Waebi.
Here are 2 links i found on SPUF’s.

The first is the normal HUD and the second is the mini HUD.

imagin we would wouldnt be playing demoman fortress 2 anymore agron :P somehow incredible
If Valve are interested in making TF2 truely competitive, then more than just no random damage, no random spread, and no weapon view is needed.
As it stands now the demoman and scouts rule the battlefield, a soldiers ability to influence a match is minimal especially when the scouts are dead, the heavy virtually never gets played, and the other classes are used rarely if at all.
If, for example, Valve combined the flare gun with the shotgun (ie., the flare gun mounted on top of the shotgun) and perhaps made burning enemies 10% more susceptible to friendly damage; maybe even give the pyro a slight air-jump with the blow-back function then we might see the pyro used frequently in matches.
lol! , Am glad Valve are doing it though rather than someone else taking it into their non experienced, self indulgent hands *cough* Anakin *cough*.
This isn’t even the big update though so…still waiting for the scout upgrade :P Wonder what nice shiny tools Bybben is gonna have to murder people with!
Cheers
Byte
It’s because of Anakin Valve are contemplating the introduction of no random damage; r_aspectratio is undoubtably a cheat and again thanks to Anakin this has been removed (and I think he reported another 3 glitches). What have you done for the competitive TF2 community Byte except disapprove people from the pickup channels and comment on peoples recruitment threads adding your opinion on which division they should play in?
Care face, changes are pretty minimal in my eyes, you can see plenty with models on, but it would be nice to have a proper cvar, if anakin is right, the cvars to minimalise random damage would be brilliant!
Looking forward to see what the scout update brings
Edit: both byte and frag have good points. Why should one person take the responsibility of the entire competitive scene..it would be nice to see valve contact a competitive community that could host votes – not one persons opinion on what a community wants.
The american guy asked other people of the competitive community of what they think should be changed. He showed me the e mail before it was sent, and it’s almost the same as what have been said in those forums.
“Why? You can play with a widescreen resolution on a 4:3 screen, it looks just as stupid as aspectratio, but it works.”
That’s exactly my point. It’s doable otherwise, so why ban only one method of achieving the same thing when you should ban all of them?
Switching the r_aspectratio on the fly is another debate, though, and you make a good point. Maybe make it switchable only when you’re not in-game or when you are dead?
