ETF2L Statement on Player Conduct
ETF2L takes player conduct very seriously. In a growing process since 2018 (and 2020) we have started taking action in regard to the behaviour of our members. Recent community bans and events have moved us to publish a new statement regarding player conduct and player behaviour in our community.
By taking actions on player behaviour, we want to provide an environment in which everyone can feel comfortable and safe no matter who they are. While players might have the right to say and do what they see fit, it is also within our right to not tolerate unacceptable behaviour by people playing in this league.
Any form of harassment, discrimination, racism, doxxing or severe toxicity has no place in our league and our community. We expect everyone to treat other members with respect. Anyone overstepping the boundaries will be punished with league bans depending on the severity of the offence(s). Punishments can vary from verbal warnings, week/month/year bans up to a total expulsion from the league.
We also do not condone any form of mob mentality, witch-hunting, or taking part in spreading rumours that could severely impact another player negatively. If you have concerns about another player you should not publicly accuse them. Instead you are expected to report it directly to the admin team so they can deal with it (read further below if you are not sure how to do that).
Players should feel safe when reporting player misconduct, without having to fear any repercussions for reporting. We want to ensure the privacy of reporters and show that reports will have meaningful consequences. When it comes to punishments, we do not provide the offenders with any critical evidence in order to ensure the anonymity and safety of the reporter. However, we have to make clear that we cannot act if there is no evidence of the misconduct. Opinions are subjective and we cannot rely on them to punish someone.
As no case is the same, when discussing community cases ETF2L will look at the available evidence and put it in the context of the particular situation (e.g. ages of the people involved, offender’s previous behaviour and punishments) to reach a well-rounded case decision. We will not punish based on only hearsay or assumptions and will only ban if a majority of the staff members agree with the discussed outcome.
How to report misconduct
If you did not know about our policy and/or if you wish to report someone’s behavior or misconduct you should do so by contacting us on our Discord by creating a League Admin request with the following information:
- ETF2L Profile of the player(s) you are reporting
- evidence you gathered of their misconduct (screenshots/videos/audio recording/POV or STV demos/log files) in which we can verify identity and the whole context
If you are not sure of the relevance of your evidence, you should still come forward with it and we will tell you whether it is enough or if we need additional proof.
ETF2L staff will continue to improve how they will approach these cases in a timely manner in the future. If you have any questions on reporting or feedback on how we can further improve this process, please do contact our staff.
Following the above, we would like to mention the following two incidents:
It has come to our attention that the player 
Cyanic has shown unacceptable behaviour at the recent i69, which has resulted in him being removed from the event and consequently being banned from attending future Insomnias. We have concluded that this affair has to be addressed by ETF2L as well to show that we do not tolerate such misbehaviour in our community either. Since the incident, the involved parties have spoken with each other and with us. After looking at what happened and taking every statement into account, the result of our discussion is a six month ban for Cyanic.
Furthermore in a grouped incident, the following players have shown either gross despicable behaviour or pushed for further harassment of other community members. As some already had previous reports and punishments due their conduct we have decided to take further action. We would like to repeat that mob mentality and witch-hunts have no place here.

The following player was caught using a different player’s account to play in a lower divison Highlander Season 26 match. They received a ban for six months for multi-accounting.

The following players have been caught with VAC bans possibly affecting TF2 and have been banned from the league for two years, or two years after their original ban:

As these players have not been caught cheating by our staff potential match results are not affected. Some of the VACs may have been detected on alternate Steam/ETF2L accounts.
If you were banned due to a VAC ban on your Steam account that does not affect Team Fortress 2, or would like to appeal your permanent VAC league ban, please contact our Anti-Cheat staff and clarify the situation in order to get the ETF2L ban removed.

I am literally Jesus Christ sacrificed on a cross. Banned for.exposing a pedo. Yet admins decided to ask me for evidence and ban rae 3 whole months after his victims came forward to ME telling me what they experienced.
Know that I did not commit mob justice at all – I never harassed rae in any way (we were somewhat friendly in rahmixes), I never could have reported Rae myself because I am banned in the etf2l discord and the victims told me they already told the admins what they told me. All I did was make a video calling.him a pedo and showing evidence. It took admins 3+ months to do anything.
Yet here I am banned. Nobody reported me. Many said the same thing I did. Admins admit.that what I said was true. But I am made an example. An example that you cannot question the incompetence and the monopoly of admins.

And why is Cyanic getting a ban at an in person event not run or controlled by ETF2L. Insomnia banned him, that’s his punishment. If he sparks some cunt out during an offi in person ban him, not if he attempts and misses during an event not even connected to the league.

Yeah I know the admins are volunteers and I’m very grateful, I’d just suggest not being utter knobheads about banning people for light banter.

It’s not because this is internet that it means you don’t get affected by what’s happening on it. Therefore it makes perfect sense to deal with harassment and racism online as much as it happens in real life. Yes you could avoid it by not going on internet anymore and you can also avoid it by not going out ever again. Or maybe those having a questionnable behavior could start thinking that their actions and words mean something to others.
Cyanic is a player of our league and assaulted someone also playing our league so it makes perfect sense that we react as well regardless of where it happened – even though it was in a public place.
We do take actions against inappropriate weapons and cosmetic names but as you can imagine we don’t straight up ban people we ask them to erase it or not wear them during scrims/officials. If they refuse we take further action.
I don’t believe I have to say that we don’t ban people because we dislike them do I?
If you can act with basic respect and manners you won’t ever be contacted by us or at least punished by us. Pretty simple the majority of the league manages to do it.

And yeah, I think there are bigger problems then banning people, because he said kys (for e.g.). Maybe he just meant it as a joke. And if someone really kills himself, then he would do it anyways. I think we’ll never agree on who should and shouldn’t get banned, but do remember some of the people in this recent post were avid, active members of the community. Many of the people in this list banned for “harassment” and other non cheating/nonce bans have most likely poured 1000s of hours in the game for the official matches in your league. Some going above and beyond, creating their own mix servers which facilitated 100s of organised games with 100s of players, directly contributing to the newer generation of player via mentoring and even creating unique media content to be used in tf2 events. Now most of these banned players will leave your league, in turn losing a whole pool of experience and skill.
I’m not saying ban no one, I just think some of these recent bans are quite frankly extreme and targeting the wrong individuals. It’s wouldn’t be rash in saying the ETF2L community negatively reacted to your bans and it hasn’t put as admins in the best light. I believe this will be a turning point in the league if these type of bans continue. Again thank you for your work, just don’t be knobs.
On another note, you need to make admin requests anonymous. It would solve so many problems, stop targeted hate against admins and prevent incidents from happening like it did on 21/10/2021.
