We regret to inform the public that a former anti-cheat staff member has been found releasing confidential information to the public. ETF2L does not tolerate this kind of behaviour, and he will be banned during Highlander Season 8:
The following player has been found guilty of manipulating screenshots and will be banned for the duration of 6v6 Season 21:
The following player has been found guilty of non-permitted acquisition of profits and will be banned for the duration of Highlander Season 8:
These players have been caught with VAC bans affecting TF2, and will be banned from the league for one year:
As these players have not been caught cheating by our staff, their match results are not affected.
The following players have been caught cheating by our Anti-Cheat team. They will be banned from ETF2L for one year:
The following players have failed to upload demos twice, and will be banned for two weeks:

No one is disputing the wrong doing of leaking something, banning him from playing the game is quite illogical and has by no means any relation to when he plays the game and or affecting matches.
Think of something more efficient/justified and that is related to the offence?
Something smart would be, creating a blacklist of players who won’t receive any participation medals for example and a forum ban, then maybe a ban on transferring teams…
Much more can be thought of to give him a penalty for being a douche bag n sharing something. Less hitler please more thought.

^ This exists for a reason. We’re no state. Our rules (or “laws”) can’t cover every single possibility without turning ETF2L into an obscure bureaucratic mess.
I’m mentioning this because your suggestion of a punishment is too specific. A blacklist?
Who else is going to be put on there? It’s not like we have (ex-)staff members leaking confidential information often enough to justify maintaining such a list.
You’d have to put other “offenders” into the same list for other violations using a fixed ruleset.
Then again how are you going to determine which ones of them have violated our rules in a way that’d result in them being put on that list?
The answer is: You can’t. While they might be in the same kind of category every rule break is different, as such they require a different consequence every time.
We reserve the right to hand out these punishments based off of the circumstances present.
In this specific case our staff decided that a season long league ban is justifyable, anything else is not.
No reason to forum ban him as he didn’t post any leaks to the forum.
The person who did already got forum banned.
Of course most of this is not comprehensible for a lot of people, mainly because they’re too biased by their emotions and history with the player to form an objective opinion in the first place.
Don’t worry, being the empathetic person that I am I’ve found a suitable answer for those folks aswell:

The blacklist was an example not a suggestion (please l2read), the latter of ‘all’ deciding on a decision doesn’t change the logical state of it either (fact).
Empathy has nothing to do with it, neither does my bias or emotions, as I hardly know quintosh (no really I have no idea who he is :D). Reserve the right, forgot ETF2L is a trademark industry (lol).
Just sounds to me, one person suggested a ban from a season the mass agreed, as opposed to everyone sitting down and thinking of a valid punishment and discussing, because why would they? requires too much more effort right?

And while you claim that your “example” wasn’t a suggestion you still referred to it as “smart” therefore I take it that you’d have no problem implementing it, why else would you bring it up?

My examples given are smart as they aren’t a global ban they are a bespoke ban not referring to the topic hence I said example. If everyone followed the appalling ruling system of what’s been applied here, then we’d be applying global bans for any rule broken.
Afaik, from other admins who have had some common sense, especially Sonny and Canfo, they took the time to come up with specific penalties for various rules broken, e.g. missing screenshot = minor. No demo submitted = 2 week ban. These all seem logical and fair in their own right. For instance the no demo being submitted is like a footballer not submitting their urine sample for a drugs test, they get a penalty of x months out of action =)
In this case none of that thought process has been put in, but your ‘all admins agreed’ bs. I don’t need to know more than what the news post says, so save your ‘I know more info than you’ bs please to someone who’s naive. It clearly says in the news post ‘that a former anti-cheat staff member has been found releasing confidential information to the public’, aka leaked information. Unless quintosh himself is being investigated for cheating, and enough evidence is shown between the AC admins to warrant his exclusion from highlander season 8, otherwise then the penalty applied is illogical, period.
So in summary:
I’ve no need to check what has been said, I’ll put it in layman terms for your fragile state of mind. The type of penalty that has been applied for the crime, does not add up, with what has been stated in the news post.
Hope thats clear and mighty enough for you. Now you can get back to the etf2l admin room and curse/whinge about wtf I’m saying to your co-pals ^_^

I don’t think anyone would care about not getting a medal or a forum ban (for example) if they want to leak something – it would have to be a punishment that hurts and there aren’t many of those around on the internet.
There aren’t many forms of punishment ETF2L has the power to enforce (especially ones that actually make some kind of impact). Having said that though, I would agree with you that the punishment enforced is overkill, but I don’t think there is a suitable alternative. An overkill punishment is better than a light punishment.
Give us a break Perm, a more sustained and as u said not overkill punishment to my mind would be penalizing that team to not be able to use quintosh for say 4 matches out of the 8, this is just a example punishment off the top of my head. If you think that’s too light make it 5 etc…

It sounded like you were arguing that the type of ban was incorrect before, now you just suggested the same thing as ETF2L enforced except with a slightly shortened length. (7 matches enforced to your 4 matches suggested)
While I respect people disagreeing personally I think you’re making it out to sound like they’ve enforced a completely ridiculous out of proportion punishment, when in reality it’s only a slightly longer punishment than the one you suggested.
Also, Sonny’s and CreaTive’s bans are not related to the game – does the same argument hold for them?

thom, i just find it interesting that there’s a spate of bans for ‘esp’, which at first glance seems the hardest cheat to spot. the ac admins can’t comment but you have some insight. were you using the same software as other banned players, that you know of? do you have any idea what might have tipped them off? it almost looks like they’re automatically detecting a signature. i just find it interesting :)

1. For start let`s imagine that creative really sold some places in team for keys (what is obviously not a true).

2. Now let`s be realistic and count some facts:
a)ETF2L administration have no evidence of creative talking about selling spot to someone.
b)ETF2L administration have no evidence of creative taking keys for spot in team.
c)ETF2L administration have no evidence of creative adding new players in team.
d)ETF2L administration have only a commentary on match page and decided to forbid a prem scout playing season.
There is no adequate reasons to ban a player from a season for one commentary.
And don`t star saying something like “we have evidence but don`t want to show it” cos you have [b]nothing[/b].
So let`s make it clear:
1)Creative was banned for trolling noone.
2)There is no punishment for making business in ETF2L so even if Creative making profit, administration have no reasons to ban him.
3)Administration have no evidence of creative selling spots.
4)[b]WASP administration didn`t even think about selling spots.[/b]
So please look straight in to facts, unban and let not guilty player play the game.

Principal hasn’t changed, but going by what you said of “it’s hard to find a penalty in relation to such an offense” other than just banning them from the league, if all angles have been covered (which I don’t think they truly have coz lol obvious.com) but if we are to go by your experienced statement of that it is hard to find the right penalty say, then at the very least make the punishment fair so, even more in this case.
Also I wouldn’t give a 4 match ban in this case, and I wouldn’t give him a ban from the game at all especially if it meant him to stop playing, considering his offence has fuck all to do with cheating in the game lol.
