Medic  Div 6 Skill, 6v6

UnitedKingdom Alloy

Posted: | Last Online:

Hi I'm Alloy, I main Medic and I’d like to apply to any Div 6 teams out there.

I've not had any comp experience so far but I do have a good quality mic and have watched a lot of comp vids and guides so I won't be a complete noob to the whole competitive scene. I currently have close to 90 hours on my medic but unfortunately I’m still f2p so I cant add people and you'll have to add me.

Please don’t let the fact that I’m f2p scare you off though, I can hopefully be a great asset to your team if you give me a chance :)

  8. Alloy: VΛ // said:

Admirable, your guides were incredibly informative and contained a lot of humour which made it more pleasant to read ^_^.

Your writing style is also very similar to Joseph O’connor.

I didn’t get a chance to look at any of the videos however since I’m at my friends house and I’ve seen snails run marathons in the time it takes his videos to buffer.

When I get back to mine, I’ll also have a look at that tf2 lobby thingy. It seems like a great way to practice.

  9. Admirable: (Toucan Ambassador) said:

Yeah that sounds about right :D

Cadred.org don’t cover TF2 any more but you can keep abreast of things over at VanillaTF2.org!

TF2Lobby is definitely a good place to start, but you will want to get involved in mixes and pickups too where people actually communicate.

  10. Jonny said:

i agree with admirable, you also might have a hard time finding a lobby because people kick players with a low lobby count. so you’re probably better off in low mixes for now

Wow. I never expected the etf2l community to be THIS friendly XD.

Thanks for all of the support. For an aspiring comp player, this means an incredible deal to me and makes me wnna get beter so I can show you guys you made a great decision by putting your hopes in me.

I did try out tf2lobby and realised just how much I need to practice on. People get so kill-hungry when they see a medic, it’s almost as if I was being ignored in pubs. After I type this post, I’m gonna go check out vannilatf2.org and see what they have to offer.

@Jonny your’re 100% right, it was sheer luck that I was even able to find any battles. Most of the time I got kicked and only let back in when they realised they needed me to start the game ;)

@Swifty thanks, I’ll try my best. Hopefully I can download a “tr_walkway” style map that will help me with rocket surfing

    @Croaton Thanks, that means a lot :D

  14. Swifty: ξ(゜ヮ゜)ξ said:

If I get some time, I could sit on a server and help you with surfing and/or movement in general. I’ll add you bro.

  24. DjShrew said:

Sound like a nice guy, best of luck. although there are some decent pubs, TheHH and NE are usually good. Players will focus medics on there, lobbys are ok to get u started but rarely any team play.

Lolage (mix master.) usually does some decent mix’s where u will get decent players, who will help you understand the kind of calls needed.

I would be happy to look over ur demo’s and give pointers, if you wish. there are also noobie mixes that are run by NE/IDK, don’t know if you have seen them?

  25. MountainPython said:

Shame you picked the worst class to start 6v6 journey. It requires most routine, counting dmg, ubering not too late (before your pocket+demo take a lot of dmg), but also not too early (waste of uber %). Also you need good positioning on uber adv / disadv but you can learn it from vanilla tv vids. Just watch all of these http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9320FCF73504844D&feature=plcp i bet you wont understand most of it, but still watching any of them is like playing xx mixes.

    xoxo

and dont forget http://steamcommunity.com/groups/6v6newmix but i dont really like making newbies play mixes before they watch all videos on vtv.

  27. Califax: dyn. said:

    Best of luck Alloy! :)

  28. MountainPython said:

    Just do big steps:
    Watch demos/vtv vids
    Then train what u learn
Find better players to train with
    repeat

once u quickly get into div 4/3 u will see how sweet tf2 can get!

and remember dont play with players that carry u much and ones u have to carry cause u dont learn anything + its not fun, always try to fight better divs to focus on ur mistakes rather than roll on see ur scouts going doublesniper its a waste of time

  29. atmo said:

Spend time playing as the other 6v6 classes so you get an idea of what you’re up against, and you can learn their firing rhythm, reload timing and tactics that can be used against you.

Instant legend there. ETF2L is not THAT friendly, people are just fed up with dozens of players who try to hop divisions without any real credibility.

Will add you in Steam; maybe I can give you some basic advices as a fellow medic.

  35. Chicken George said:

TF2 community sucks, Alloy, a lot of retards (including myself), elitism (over a fucking vidya game), etc., etc…Won’t bother you with all the details.
The reason is why everyone seems so friendly is because you didn’t know what the word “prem” stands for. As prem players are of their own special olympics type, it was considered as “omgz funny”, “let’s support this guy”.You are like a meme everyone laughs about. You know, people are doing what others are doing – that’s how things work. So more and more will write something like “omg good guy xoxox”, because you’re something new and funny for them, and it’s a bit stale around there, hence all that ruckus. Two things are likely to happen : if you are not shit and you do have a lot of spare time in your hands, you will quickly advance the divs (you could even be shit if you were a girl though), and if you are a baddie everyone will forget about you as quickly as possible.
    Best of luck man.

  36. Turbo: -ƒ$-BLAH - sniper said:

George sounds all kinds of furious.

  37. Vanilla_Mi: F! said:

George lol, a bit upset are we.

The “Karnage should take Alloy” is definitely something no one takes serious. Except you. Because you’re buttmad. Thats why. I’m actually laughing at you at the moment, not Alloy since he seems to be a genuinely nice guy who’s dedicated :)

“prem players are elitist” is bullshit in most cases. If you don’t have enough people trying to help you, Alloy, shout at me and I’ll add you on Steam for mixes and whatnot.

Newsflash: division 6 player “Chicken George” somehow thinks he knows everything about the TF2 community and the attitude of players who he has no doubt never talked to.

Wow George….just wow. I’m laughing at you, not Alloy, how can you be so bitter? So your team folded, awww, shame, don’t take it out on random people looking to better themselves in the TF2 world, and doing it in a nice, polite manner that gets people on his side.

    Social skills, get some.

  42. Chicken George said:

    Lol, and I was thinking no one is going to buy this. When I was creating the post, some parts were a bit too cheap in my book; for example, I myself know a couple of really good girl gamers; other cheap example was about prem div; of course i have zero idea how things are there because i didnt play a single match vs or with these people; finally, my post was missing the most important part, that Alloy is actually a nice dude with a great attidude for a newcomer;
Still, even with all these obvious things, you bought it :D
Another thing I was afraid about : what if the first post after mine would be with some logical thinking, it could easily destroy all my points, which, of course, were not valid enough or supported by any arguments.
But no, thanks to you I had the best – personal blames, skill police dude (with obvious who r u div6 noob) , one guy with “ur bitter cuz your team folded” (although the team was made entirely for a purpose of playing for a season getting some experience for its members, first season for everyone), 2 responses with classic ” u mad cuz bad lolol”.
See, the reason I put this troll in is just to show Alloy something – I wish him all the best, there are a lot of great people, who’ve helped me, another bunch of people who will help him. But true nature of people might be a bit different =)
Hope you liked it Alloy, and, of course, I am sorry if anyone was offended in any form(though i care as much as you care about me), I hope i’ve explained the purpose well enough.
p.s. what amuses me the most is that all who responded are medics =)

  49. Chaplain: the ninja - TSPAG said:

In response to George, the TF2 community is actually pretty good (don’t listen to byte) , although some people do complain about there not being enough help resources out there for budding players. This quite simply isn’t true. Through vanillatv resources, mix groups and generally asking for someone to take a quick look at your demo, with a bit of work you can easily get to a respectable level, and from then its off your own back to work on muscle memory to match what you think you should be doing. A lot of people expect to get better by never practicing, which I think is odd. Have a look at the hours in TF2 of the premiership (there are exceptions ofc, but they have come from other games) and you’ll see that way too much of this game is just practice. The theory of the game is very shallow and easy to understand, and once you know it, its just putting it to practice in a game context and having the ability to pull it off (aka Muscle Memory).

After talking to him on mumble, I can say without a doubt he is without a doubt ready to learn & play. Medic is fun, don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise! Hope too see you on the Team Colonslash mumble more!

  54. Taimou said:

Learn healing orders, play shitload of 6v6 and while you aren’t doing that, play MGE as soldier, doesn’t matter what arenas you play but the MGE ammomod arena is the fastest way to learn how to rocket surf perfectly and never fail it because it just is that easy, there’s a shitload of things you have to calculate and know in 6v6 as medic if you want to play aggressive or overextend+bait and still get back safely from enemy rockets/stickies.

Also playing MGE helps your dodging, I played around 150hours of the original ammomod, father of MGE mod and i’m all good now.

Watching medics in higher level might give you an idea about general medicing, but all medics play differently, especially if you watch me :D.

If you don’t maincall, play passive. It works.

  55. Taimou said:

Also I forgot to add to the “Watching medics in higher level might give you an idea about general medicing, but all medics play differently.” part, that you can’t really tell what is the best way to play since there’s pretty many playstyles that work, but 2 styles are basically used right now: Ultra-aggressive, passive-aggressive.

In ultra-aggressive playstyle, you never hold back and you basically do an all-in _everytime_ you push and in middlefights. This fits a very DM orientated team perfectly, but you do need _VERY_ strong calls too. Also you want to push you have even the smallest advantage in non-uber vs non-uber situations. Or even when you have 1-2 people down but got the height+hp advantage and you know you can win it.

Passive-aggressive is a style that focuses on ubers, you want to play safe after middlefights depending how they go, 2 or 3 or wipe and you play aggressive because you got a uber/man advantage, or then just with bigger than 25% uber advantage in general. If you push uber vs. uber you do not commit to the pushes(normally), you just uber early and make the enemy team pop, then pump your uber advantage and commit in the next push.

Both of these styles can be seen, and high teams mix them all the time.

Also there’s so many things I could dribble here and this is just a small piece of it all and in very broken structure but I don’t care.

    ps. I just play ultra-aggro.
