Multiplay insomnia 47 Reminder

Date November 9, 2012

Your friendly neighborhood insomnia LAN admin Scotland Tapley left the following message for you.

Hi ETF2L,

It’s your resident LAN Organizer and TF2 Arm Wrestling champion here. I’ve come to bring you glad tidings and the news of another TF2 LAN on the horizon – i47!!

The winter lans are always small and more UK team based but they are always more fun, I find, and community orientated so please dont let the amount of sign ups put you off.

Multiplay is once again supporting TF2 with a prize pot of at least £1000 cash guaranteed, plus some great hardware from the tournament sponsor Aquatuning. More information on the tournament can be found over at the Multiplay insomnia homepage.

As usual you will find the following threads to help you out:

  • Want some players for your mix team or want to join one, add up here
  • Want to join a team for fun and dont care who with? Automatic mix teams thread is for you
  • Need someone to lend you a screen or keyboard etc, ask away in the equipment share thread
  • Staying at the Ritz or in a tent with 3 sweaty boys, all the info can be found in here
  • Want a lift to lan or from airports or train stations, ask your fellow players for some Tr(L)ANsportation
  • Have any questions about the event or the tournament itself? The answers you seek are here

The event is open from the 29th of November to the 3rd of December but the TF2 tournament wont start till Saturday morning (December 1st) to give you all time to get to LAN and have a good drink.

Early signs are that none of the “big boys” are attending so literally its anyones prize money for a div3-4 mix team.

See you at LAN the bar.

Promotion: AVerMedia Giveaway

Date November 8, 2012

In the age of the ever growing popularity of streaming video games on the Internet, it’s not uncommon to see players show off their skills in games like TF2. Since real-time video encoding puts a heavy strain on the system, many people consider upgrading their equipment for the sole purpose of enabling smooth streaming of high quality video footage from their favorite games. We thought it’d be great to support the community in their ventures towards promoting our beloved TF2, and so did AVerMedia, one of the major companies specializing in designing, manufacturing and marketing multimedia, Internet TV and consumer electronic products.

Considering AVerMedia‘s strong commitment to enriching entertainment experiences and promoting effective communication among people, it seemed like a great opportunity for us to broaden horizons. AVerMedia was so kind as to host a giveaway of their staple video capture card, Live Gamer HD C985, for one ETF2L player.

Season 13: Premiership Match – The Last Resort vs. BFF

Date November 8, 2012

The End of an Era

Tonight marks the end of Season 13 in the Premiership Division, and with the final standings still in jeopardy, it looks like it could be the finale the season deserves. European BFF go into this game barely ahead, only a single point seperating them from their fierce rivals European The Last Resort, who have surprised viewers and baffled pundits with their success this season.

UK Chaplain sat down to have a chat with UK HYS about what makes his team so great:

C: Afternoon HYS – first things first, how are you personally feeling ahead of the big game tonight?

H: I’m really looking forward to the game tonight. We are going through a rough patch at the moment but we are weathering the storm. This will give us an opportunity to put an end to a poor spell for the team.

C: How much does a win mean for you and your team tonight?

H: A win is incredibly important for our team tonight; if we clinch it, we can secure a 2nd place finish to the season before the playoffs start.

C: How confident of a win are you?

H: I am not particularly confident given our recent form and our lack of playtime on turbine but the team has a lot of character and we will put up a fight.

C: Who will cause the most problems for you tonight?

H: I think BFF have a lot of quality in their team but I would imagine Finland Cookye to be the player who will cause us the most problems this evening.

C: What do you need to do to take the game?

H: I think we need to all be on the top of our game and ensure the mistakes we made vs Epsilon do not come back to haunt us tonight.

C: Excellent, best of luck; any shoutouts before you go?

H: I’d like to thank a sensational player and a great friend, France dONut, who will be leaving us at the end of the season, here’s what he had to say:

D: I would like to thank UK HYS and the team for allowing me to play at the very highest level during this great season.

C: Aww that’s sweet. Anything to say to BFF?

H: Think we’ll be a pushover? you’re wrong.

An articulate and well structured response from the TLR playmaker; somehow I knew European BFF’UK Kaidus wouldn’t share the same view:

C: Evening Jason, how are you feeling ahead of the game?

K: A bit tired cause I Just woke up and now some guy is hounding me with questions.

C: It’s half 5?

K: Yep.

C: Alright, what does a win mean for you tonight?

K: A win means we don’t have to mess around playing amateur gamers like crack clan again, so that’s a plus.

C: (Laughs) so you’re confident of victory tonight?

K: Pretty confident. I still have no idea how TLR have managed to succeed this season so maybe they’ll continue to surprise, but I doubt it.

C: Alright, who will cause you the most trouble tonight?

K: Sweden Beavern.

C: Hmmm OK, what do you think you need in order to take the win?

K: In order to win we just need to not mess up. The ball is in our court this time.

C: Excellent, do you have anything to say to TLR before you play them?

K: This

C: Alright, thanks!

VanillaTV will be covering this match, live from 21.15 CEST, featuring the sensational casterduo Ireland Admirable & USA djc combo with Scotland Skyride in tow; see you there!

Ladies and gentlemen… The 6th Cup! & Ultiduo #4 Updates

Date November 7, 2012

ETF2L 6th Cup

Let’s do a quick head count here, shall we? Raise your hands, those who remember our grand competitions graciously labeled “Cups”. If you did, you might be positively surprised by the news – we at ETF2L would like to revive the tradition we’ve been developing until May 2010 when two of the strongest teams of those times had clashed in the finals of the most recent, 5th Cup. As a league-wide competition, it’ll be a great opportunity for the top tier teams to further strengthen their dominance, but also for the underdogs to rise, shine and undermine the confidence of the old guard. It would also serve as a testing ground for us to give all the new maps a try in a competitive environment to bring in some variety to the scene. And by variety, we also mean *cough* unlocks. Whether you are a group of tryhards or just laid back casuals, it’s about time for you to buckle up and sign up with your 6v6 team for some action!

Important note for all teams that have not played all of their Season 13 matches yet: The rosters will be unlocked to allow teams to add new players to their roster for this tournament. All new players can be used in the 6th cup but still count as mercs and need the opponent’s approval for all remaining Season 13 matches, including tie breakers and playoffs.

Prizes

The winner of this tournament does not only win bragging rights but as well €300 cash.

Highlander Season 3: colony vs Parrot Gapers!

Date November 7, 2012

Highlander Season 3: colony vs Parrot Gapers – Premiership Match

Watch live video from VanillaTV on www.twitch.tv
As one season at ETF2L begins to wind down, another is only just beginning. Highlander Season 3 is set to begin with two contrasting teams, Finland colony and European Parrot Gapers playing the most played map in Highlander, pl_badwater. If you’ve followed European Highlander, you’ll have heard of the Finnish Highlander veterans who after a disappointing Season 2 are looking to begin this season a lot stronger with a few roster changes. Most notably is their new sniper Finland MInd who has been very impressive during the recent Highlander Nations Cup and will be key if Finland colony are to win tonights game.

European Parrot Gapers are a new team to the highest level of Highlander in Europe, after winning Division 2b last season with their raw deathmatch skills. Among the players are Israel Spary, and newly promoted Premier Division players Portugal kiler4fun and England Si^ from European myDGB.net. The question is whether the strength of European Parrot Gapers’ deathmatch can best Finland colony’s highlander knowledge and experience.

We tried to get a serious statement from European Parrot Gapers, this is what Gubbins had to say:

There was once a team of gapers, so flawed and broken in many ways that the ETF2L staff denied them their premiership invite for a season and decided they should try their luck in a div below. Mistake. What you will witness tonight is a full feathered Finnish Gaping of the Parrot kind. European SNSD, I hope you can get out from under your duvet to witness the undoing of your reign. Let the widest gaper win!

I also spoke to Finland SabaSaba from Finland colony:

Both teams have lots of TF2 veterans, so it will most likely be small things that make the difference. Tiny mistakes can become really expensive and cost the whole map. These teams have never faced each other, so there is no historical burden or expectations between the contesting teams.

This game is being casted by UK Skully and Netherlands ThePledge at VanillaTV, with Lithuania huhy on the stream. The game starts at 20CET.
