This cup has a special twist to it – in addition to a hardware prize for first place, there will be two additional prizes for players who stream or record their matches!

For those of you not familiar to the concept of MGE: it is a gamemode where players play 1 vs 1 matches to practise and improve their deathmatch skills. More info about MGE

Streamer Prizes

For this cup, we encourage players of all skill levels to experiment with capturing their gameplay on video – the Streamer Prizes will be available only to players who stream at least 75% of their cup matches. If you’ve never tried streaming before, now is the perfect opportunity to try it out – Skyride has written a wonderful guide that should get you started in no-time!

Staff Updates & New Site Feature: Match History!

Date November 27, 2012

Staff Updates

Netherlands Spike Himself has once again rejoined the admin team after a period of absence. If you quit again, we won’t take you back!

UK Chaplain and Poland freshmeatt between them have contributed all of the premiership coverage posts you’ve seen in the last two months, thus we’re happy to promote them to full staff members in charge of coverage.

We’re happy to announce that the trial period of our four german gentlemen has been concluded, and Germany dave, Germany nTraum, Austria wrock and Germany slate have taken over as ETF2L’s coder team! The coding staff is now bigger than ever and with almost only germans, it can only work efficiently.

Russia irfx is leaving the admin staff. His real life has taken over for the past few months and he was not able to contribute as much as he wanted to. We would like to thank him for all the work he did for ETF2L’s highlander competitions, especially Highlander Season 1 and Season 2, and wish you all the best for your personal life and your Team Fortress 2 career.

New Feature

Your ETF2L profile page now lists your complete ETF2L match history! All matches that have readable status screenshots are listed, including games played as a merc.

Highlander Prem Bonanza: Colony vs SNSD

Date November 25, 2012

Highlander Season 3

Another weekend comes and goes, leaving a long soggy trail of faded promise and forgotten memories; however, every highlander aficionado will have been rubbing their hands together in expectation for tonight’s showdown, counting down the hours toward one of the biggest match-ups of the season, Finland Colony vs SouthKorea SNSD. SNSD are on an unbeaten run after a convincing victory over the Poland Max Play Highlander Team and enjoying all the perks and privileges being #1 has to offer. I sent star highlander journalist UK Peter ‘Hildreth’ Parker to get me pictures of Spiderman, however all he came back with was a statement from SNSD all-star Hungary Linus, which is a little better than nothing:

Linus – “Colony has been our longest-lasting rival. Ever since the highlander challenge they’ve posed a rather dangerous threat. They’ve had their ups and downs, and I think their performance often depends on the line-up they use, and their concurrent mood. They’ve beaten European Parrot Gapers , which quite frankly surprised us – but then they lost to Max-Play. One thing I noticed is that Colony is always much better when Finland Zoob plays. And it’s their home map Upward (the map they actually beat us during the HCC final) so I’m expecting a close game at the very least.”

Colony are a different kettle of fish, after a mixed start to the season featuring a merciless drubbing from the renowned Max-Play Highlander Team and a hard-fought victory over the infamous Parrot Gapers, things could be going better and a hell of a lot worse. Colony do have star sniper Finland mInd to fight their corner, and it remains to be seen how he will fare versus Ginger Swedish Man-Child Sweden TviQ as they battle head(shot) to head to determine who emerges as the head(shot) honcho of the European Sniper Scene. I chat to TviQ for his take on the challenge:

TviQ – “I Cheat”

VanillaTV will be casting this game LIVE from 19:00 CET with luminaries England Hildreth and England Skully on hand to gently guide you through the twists and turns of the game and to mispronounce the names of the teams. case-retentively anal demoman, (lower case k)aidus, will also be covering the game with live comms from the SNSD camp on his twitch.tv page.

ETF2L 6th Cup and nervous ENERGY’s Ultiduo #4 Round 2

Date November 25, 2012

ETF2L 6th Cup Round 2

The bot draw for the second round happened yesterday afternoon at around 17.30 CET. The few unplayed matches have been decided with a coin flip. You can find the brackets here. Please have all round 2 matches played before Friday, November 30 23:59. The bot draw for round 3 will be held on Saturday at around 18.00 CET.

Many teams asked the admins in the past week how they are supposed to choose the played map so here is a little reminder. As usual, you can find all relevant rules on the cup’s hub page as well.

Until the quarter finals, all matches are played “best of 1” with the map elimination system:

  • Both teams need to agree on who eliminates first (The team that eliminates second has a slight advantage). If the teams can not agree, they need to perform a heavy fist fight [Explanation].
  • Loser of the heavy fist fight eliminates a map
  • Winner of the heavy fist fight eliminates a map
  • Repeat 2 & 3 until one map remains
  • This is the map you will be playing

Ultiduo #4 by ETF2L and nervousENERGY Round 2

Unfortunately, a few matches had to be decided with a coin flip because no result was submitted by the end of the match deadline last night. Until the default date tonight, it is not too late to contest the result though, IF you have solid proof to claim a default win.

Please remember that the default date for round 2 is tonight at 20.30 CET and the match deadline November 27. All unplayed matches will again be decided with a coin flip on November 28. A list of all default dates and deadlines for the coming rounds can, of course, be found on the cup’s hub page.

All teams that are still in the cup should also remember to play all remaining matches with the same two players that played in their round 1 match. Mercs and backup players are not allowed anymore in the knockout stage.
