Season 14 Schedule, Maps and Unlocks

Date December 27, 2012

Season 14 is almost upon us, and as a late Christmas present we’ve decided to announce some details early: the Season Schedule, the Map Pool, and more importantly, the Unlocks. We are also happy to announce that Twitch will support Season 14 as the main sponsor!

Season Schedule

Signups: January 2 – 9
Seeding: January 9 – 11
Publishing of Provisional Divisions: January 12
Schedule Week: January 13 – 19
Main Season: January 20 – March 2 (7 weeks)
Catch-up Week: March 10 – 16
Playoffs: March 17 – April 7

You can still sign up your team after January 9. Teams signing up later than January 9 will be placed on the waiting list and have a very high chance of replacing dead or dropping teams during the first three play weeks.

Map Pool

Turbine has proven to be the least popular map of Season 13’s map pool, and thus it has been removed. In Season 14, we will put an emphasis on mastering a smaller pool of maps, all of which are well-known and popular throughout all levels of play.

The Unlocks

Based on the feedback from the 6th Cup, we have decided to break the status quo and introduce the Cup’s unlocks into our regular 6v6 League. We believe that these carefully chosen unlocks will add more variety and tactical depth to 6v6 across all skill levels.

The complete list of unlocks allowed in Season 14 is as follows:

  • The Kritzkrieg
  • The Übersaw
  • Crusader’s Crossbow
  • The Blutsauger
  • The Overdose
  • The Gunboats
  • The Boston Basher
  • The Pain Train
  • The Escape Plan

The Season 14 whitelist will be identical to the 6th Cup whitelist.

If you’ve never played in a ETF2L 6v6 Season before, check out the 6v6 Newcomer’s Guide and the FAQ to get started!

Season 14 signups, prizes and rule changes will be announced on January 2nd. Enjoy the holidays, and we will see you again in 2013!

Highlander Season 3 Playoffs and Tiebreakers!

Date December 17, 2012

For the vast majority of Highlander Season 3 participants the dice have been cast and positions are final, but for a select few high-achievers, there is still the last leg of the race to run. For the first time ever, the best highlander team will be decided by playoffs between the top 3 placing teams in Premiership. The rest of Premiership and the top four Division 1 teams will be offered special playoffs unique to Season 3, which will both determine the winners of the Secondary prize pool and award three spots in Season 4 Premiership!

Tiebreakers

Before the playoffs can begin, several tiebreaker matches must be played to determine team placement:

Premiership
Legolas took one of our points vs Parrot Gapers

The winner of this match will be seeded into the Premiership playoffs, the loser will participate in Secondary playoffs.

Division 1
[<3] vs Simply The Best

The winner of this match gets a higher seed in the Secondary playoffs.

Division 3B
Easy Going vs Wolves of Anatolia

Division 6G
jadOM Świnie vs Lohjan toivot + Antuska

These matches will determine the leaders of their respective groups, and thus the recipients of the Group Winner medals.

Playoff structure

Secondary playoffs

1st Round

Loser of Premiership Tiebreaker vs bye
Finland colony vs loser of Division 1 Tiebreaker
Poland Max-Play Highlander Team vs winner of Division 1 Tiebreaker
France DAROUTOUTOU vs Russia turbopoop eSports

The Secondary Playoffs will be held as a multi-week single elimination cup with predetermined fixtures. The loser of the Premiership Tiebreaker will join the action in the semi-finals. The finals will decide the distribution of the cash prizes, and the three highest placing teams will get an automatic spot in Premiership next season!

Premiership Playoffs

Semi Final
European May Contain Nuts vs winner of Premiership Tiebreaker

Grand Final
European SNSD vs European Winner of Semi Final.

The Premiership playoffs are the final showdown between the best teams in the League, and will be held similarly to our 6v6 playoffs. All three teams will receive cash prizes, with the winner taking home the largest sum along with the title of the best Highlander team in Europe!

Prizes

As a reminder of what’s at stake, here is a list of prizes for both playoffs:

Premiership playoffs:

  • Winner: €1,035
  • Runner-up: €630
  • Third Place: €405

Secondary playoffs:

  • Winner: €360
  • Runner-up: €135

Schedule

All Tiebreakers must be played before January 1st. Matches without results will be coinflipped.

Here are the deadlines for each round of the playoffs:

Secondary Playoffs:

  • 1st round: January 6th
  • Semi Finals: January 13th
  • Final/3rd place: January 20th

Premiership Playoffs:

  • Semi Finals: January 13th
  • Grand Final: January 20th

Maps

All Tiebreakers and Playoff matches will be played in a Best of 3 format. However note that Badwater, Gravelpit, Steel and Upward should be played only one round each. Granary and Lakeside will be played with the usual rules.

The maps for each tiebreaker and playoffs match will be decided by map elimination. A step-by-step breakdown of the process can be found on the Rules page
