sad indeed, but this is nothing new, and even though there will be a big outcry to ban these drugs, its not going to stop drug intake in general or stop people trying it…

Working in a hospital, ive seen some very bad drug/alcohol induced injuries, nobody ever learns, these 2 guys have made the news, but think about how many people’s death go unnoticed everyday from alcohol and drug use. Imo its mostly peer pressure that causes many silly deaths from drugs/alcohol, and thats an aspect of being young that will never go away.

In an ideal world, yeah this drug will be banned and more young people will be made aware, but it’s not like this situation/issue is going to go away, just like all the other drugs out there. Just look at the attitude towards weed on this thread…. it says alot about what people consider ok/not ok etc

No offence but what did they expect taking plant fertiliser, if they needed wood should have just got some cheap viagra. I have no sympathy for them.

afaik its not acutally plant fertiliser, it’s just a loophole to make the sale legit

It’s sold as a plant food/fertilizer with the label “not fit for human consumption” soley so that is legal to be sold. As far as I know it doesn’t even have any benefits as plant food so I don’t understand how that technicality actually work.

I can’t really comment to much on it, majority of my college either uses it on a weekly, or more, basis or knows dealers or deals it themselves. Think it’s quite possibly the easiest drug to buy, fuck tonnes easier than anything I can think off. Plus it’s incredibly cheap as well. Still, I’ve never tried it and never will, it’s fucking up people i know, some guy I knew did it the night before his fucking A level exam and managed to fail because of it. People are fucking stupid.

Atleast if it was illegal the price would go up and therefore people would actually have to think before buying it.

thats the only plus that would come out of banning it.

Also thanks to lots of media coverage, something will emerge about a possible resolve for it. Also support groups are being set up thanks to all the stories and experienced staff members from certain groups.

Using this thread as a discussion to whether or not to bans drugs in general is kind of missing the point in the thread’s initial post, even if you do not believe in banning, joining said group and getting the attention of it to media has done wonders, even if it does not get banned; it’s made a lot more people aware about a substance they may not have known was harmful, and that is all that people could have asked for, for the time being.

No-one suggested that banning the drug would cease its use entirely. I struggle to see how a price increase would not discourage people from using the stuff.

There seem to be two issues at hand here, one is “M-CAT is a legal recreational drug with health dangers, shall we class it as such with other recreational drugs with health dangers?” to which I believe it’d be daft not to.

The other issue seems to be “The government has no right to tell me what I can or can’t consume” and that’s not strictly true, they can tell you what you can and can’t take, whether you follow that advice is your own call.

the key point to this story is that some kids overdosed on a legal drug. Kids overdose on illegal drugs often enough and it’s not nearly as big a deal. I see arguments of “I’m not saying they deserved it, but they were stupid to take it in the first place”, and to an extent I agree, but at the same time I’m seeing people say that they must have understood the risks, and that’s a problem, surely both sides can’t be correct. I feel that they didn’t understand the risks, and that’s why they’re now dead, now that it’s gone all over the news however, those liable to use it in future may well understand the risks better than Louis Wainright and Nicholas Smith did.

Thalien’s point is a good one, making the drug harder to obtain would increase the price, which by simple logic would lower the rate at which people overdose on it at least, you can’t overdose on what you can’t afford. Increasing costs has been deemed an acceptable method of discouraging substance misuse by the government at any rate, as shown by the massive tax on Alcohol and Tobacco.

I’ve yet to see anyone offer a valid reason for not outlawing M-CAT.

The key word was “right” however. There’s a crucial difference between something occuring and that occurance being justified..

Also what are we showing support for? You can’t possibly tell me these people were unaware of the risks? They were responsible for their own decision, why on earth should a redundant piece of legislation be needed for them to know what’s good/bad?

Just ban it, we can be all liberal and float around the subject but make it illegal. The price goes up, it sends a message that its not just some harmless fun drug, its actually dangerous (Not that many people would listen but it would save lives so its worth it?) If its still sold “underground” by dealers, who cares? if u buy it off a dealer and die when its illegal your even more stupid.

But then again people inhale gas and aerosol cans, so shall we all go an ban lynx?! (It does smell of canned filth though)

People need to be educated about it and other things at the end of the day, then hopefully people can be informed and clever enough not to do it ;). If they do its their own fault, but kids do stupid things, banning it at least helps us save a few?

Having had 1st hand experience with miaow miaow miaow (=D) Ican say making it illegal will do nothing. Dealers already have cheap supply of the drug from places other than the stoner shop.

Hasn’t it already been banned in Gurnsey or somewhere like that? Straight to class A. It’s cheap and moreish and readily available what do you expect will happen…
