Bury.

internecine

I’m sure a few of you might be aware of this if you watch or read the news in the UK.

But recently 2 young lads from my year in school were found dead after taking some estranged legal drug that has affected lots of people. It’s a revelation to me, and the boys affected truly didn’t deserve what happened, very vibrant and friendly guys that always had a cheeky grin on their face.

I’m not one to want to write a sappy and sad message.

Please read the full article here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humber/8570582.stm or on any other major news source.

If you’re on facebook join the group that’s trying to help prevent something like this happening again. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=367639913933 even if you don’t believe banning it is right, there’s plenty of material and discussion going on for you to read up on.

Thanks.

I feel your pain, but making drugs illegal actually makes them more dangerous than if they were legal.

You create an uncontrollable underculture and black market, you make it so that the drug is completely unmoderated and is potentially even more dangerous than the original substance itself. The people that would sell M-CAT in such a situation would no doubt be like the higher level drug sellers that currently exist — they push people hard for money, they cause people to turn to crime — whether through death or jail, making M-CAT illegal would take more lives than keeping it legal.

I appreciate what you’re trying to do, but making drugs like these illegal is not a sensible move.

Do you have actual statistics to back this up? Just look at crimes and deaths with alcohol involved in them.

Sad story and of course such crap should be illegal in my opinion.
If you have it legal you are sending out the message “this stuff is ok” and a lot of clueless people will die taking it and then blaming the covernment for not banning it.

The argument “Banning makes the users go underground and do more crimes” is valid, but still cannot make up for the huge drawbacks for a legalization, like what I mentioned above and that a lot of more people are likely to start taking the drug if it is legal and thereby extending the problem.

However, no matter if this and other stuff is illegal or not the parents have a responsibility for their children, to teach them what is right and wrong and about the dangers in life.
When children are taking drugs this is a serious wake up call that their parents are failing hard here.

as if that’ll help

There is alot of research to back that up. It has been proven that banning something doens’t make it go away. There is a large need for drugs.. even though most people dont want to acknowlegde that.

The way I feel you should handle that, is to legalise to some extend. So you create a controlled and more secure environnement then is possible when you ban it. So I agree with Chris on this.

But that doens’t make what happend there, less tragical. I wish you the best there Bury.

Some of that stuff is very central to the good stuff and doesn’t really apply to stuff like M-CAT and other cathinones, but yes, the overarching message there applies to all drugs really.

Evil

No offence but what did they expect taking plant fertiliser, if they needed wood should have just got some cheap viagra. I have no sympathy for them.

While I agree with your sentiment Evil and would never take it myself, there would be a lot of pressure on them, especially if they were in the wrong crowds.

If they’re in the wrong crowd it is once again their own fault.

I’m not as cold as “they got what they deserved”, but it was their own fault, and nobody elses.
