As much as I dislike the modern warfare series and would like to rage on them, the gaming media kind of misrepresents the issue by comparing it to facebook or wow.
From a decent preview you can gather that Call of Duty Elite will (try to) do the following:
– Offer a base for clans and host different competitions.
– Give statistical feedback on the performance of a player (e.g. a map that shows where he kills or dies often), on which clanmembers can make comments or for showing what guns / options are working out.
– The options to compare performance (accuracy etc.) to others. This includes the feature where you can assign yourself to a group and see how you do compared to others in it, as well as checking how one group does compared to the other (e.g. people who play tennis vs. people who play basketball).
– The game itself will be free, payment is mainly for the clan enviroment.
I mean, it will still be a bad console port without dedicated servers and mod tools but cod:elite won’t be the worst of it.

Less talking, more forwarding (you know what I mean) ;)
It seems to me that they’re mostly doing what others have done before them for free, but demanding money for it. Hopefully, they will at least come up with some good ideas and features, which others then can implement into their games for free.
