Just an idea..

I think everyone has seen how many teams have dropped this season which is a shame, because this game could and has done well. which brings me onto my main point. I was thinking to get more of the pubbers and maybe some of the lower skilled players more interested in the higher competitive scene.
My idea. Well most of my team play LoL (shit game, yeah i know tell me about it) and i have heard them say like they need to play a certain number of games so they get some points to buy the players they want (if that makes sense). If we use some sort of system like that but use HATS. For instance most pubbers care more about what hat they are wearing more than the game. If we use hats to bait them in to the competitive scene it could save tf2? Like lets say valve release 1 hat every month or even ever 2 weeks i dunno but to get that hat you have to play like 15 or so games a month to receive it. This should hopefully get people more interested in the competitive scene of tf2 whilst getting hats! Could also be like play a whole season in any mainstream tf2 league and get some kind of shit, which is sorta being done allready.
Dont take any of the figures i used (1 month, 2 weeks, 15 games) literally feel free to change them it is only an idea. I dont know how this could be implemented so you wouldnt get people idling their matches etc as im pretty dumb at that stuff but maybe a plugin or a cfg. ( it might be alot of effort which is why i think this idea may fail)
For the hats, i was thinking they have choice out of the 4 competitive classes hats (they would be new hats designed by people in the community)
tl;dr – Bait pubbers with hats to be welcomed to the competitative scene
Pros
– More players interested in the competitive tf2 scene
– NEW HATS OMFG
– Valve make even more money
– Hats made by the community
Cons
– I have no idea how to manage how many games played
– Valve make even more money
– TF2 is even more about hats.
– Pubbers may not give enough of a shit
Im not trying to force people to play tf2 or competitive tf2 im just trying to attract them.
If people are really bothered about not getting a hat im sure valve will happily sell the hats at some retarded price in the steam store.
I know valve have added medals and there has not been enough interest but who wants medals?!
I understand that most people in etf2l arent hugely fussed about hats but my god the pubbers are
If this didnt make much sense or hard to understand my English i only got a C grade in gcse english soo..
Also if this is a genius idea which might actually work feel free to pixel knight me like add a Sir at the start of my name.
If this is a shit idea, feel free to say why. Or don’t post at all?
Edit: fuck me i wrote alot

There are plenty people interested in playing competitively, the problem is they don’t know where to start.

yeah i suppose this is another problem. i was also thinking that there is quite alot of people in like div4 and 5 but they are not good enough. we need to get people in div4/5 better which kinda counters my main idea.
How will a billion of pubbers who only want to get a hat benefit the game at all?

because they might enjoy playing competitive its basically trying to lure them to get addicted to competitive than hats.
im not aiming this to get every single pub player to play competitive

The only thing this will solve is bring a bunch of hat addicts playing games for the sole purpose of losing them faster so they can get that hat ;/
If you guys wanna get more players into comp, you gotta go into some of the major communities of your country (say, UKCS for England), and talk to the admins to organise some events together. In partnership with ETF2L or not, it doesn’t matter, because people will come here if they like it anyway.
What kind of events? That’s obvious. Either 6v9 Pros vs. Pubbers, or even proper 6v6 with.. say.. a few pros on one team and pubbers to fill in the spots. Maybe even make this huge community 6v6 competition. Every community has a tournament inside it to see who represents it, and the finalist of each community goes on to face other community teams. Stuff like that.
This is a bad idea because the majority of the people you attract, will be dribbling spastics who want hats, rather than people who want a competitive experience.
I highly doubt bringing in more pubbers is a good thing for us.

does anyone have any evidence to suggest that the 6v9 and highlander cups have actually worked in bringing new players to 6v6? Im honestly curious at the numbers if its had a significant impact upon sign ups etc
The highlander competition brought in the majority of div6 players this season I think :D
Certainly got most of my team I think, and another 3 I can think of off the top of my head.

I know ~8 teams that signed up for 6v6 after starting with 9v9. I don’t know how many are still playing though, I can barely remember their names.
We all know Spam Effect though ;)

Spam Effect have reached div1 by doing a bad strategy extremely well. A bad strategy done well will beat a good strategy done badly.

That’s quite a bit of speculation and assumption making ^^
