Well, I bought this computer few weeks back:
Intel Core i5 2500K 4.6GHz +NOCTUA NH-D14
ASROCK P67 EXTREME 4 B3
CRUCIAL RENDITION 4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 x2
SAPPHIRE HD6950 2GB GDDR5 – Crossfire – Flashed to 6970.
HEC COUGAR CMX1000
I have heard people running TF2 on much lower end computers, on a steady 100 and 150 FPS.
I run it most of the time on 200 and 250 FPS, but in the middle map fights and such I see it diving down to 80. which is still fine, but yet.
Everything is maxed out obviously.
Is it supposed to be like that? just wondering.
your overclock is not stable
or you are running it on too high graphics.
tf2 does get massive frame drops at mid i go from 1000 fps to 250 fps on mid with chris dx8 frames. with a worse system than yours. the features such as anti aliasing could be raping your graphics card

I ran linx for around 100 passes, not enough to decide if it is stable?
it is still just an i5 run dx9 frames the fact that you have 4.6 should help. but graphics card is sat there doing nothing. you can max out this game on an ati 4850 at 120fps on an overclocked i7 system.
“it is still just an i5 run dx9 frames” – what do you mean?
I think that maybe the cpu is causing a bottleneck, and the crossfire is just adding more load on the CPU causing even more low fps?
Amm you have the new sandy bridge cpu, which is the best for gaming atm. Shouldn’t have any problems with games. You sure, you have all the needed drivers installed? You have problems with any other games? What configs are you using?
I mean I have the i5-750 and I’ve capped my fps 150 and it doesn’t drop from it.
Yes I have all the latest drivers installed.
I am running other games fine, Crysis 2 doesnt drop from 70 fps for example.
Tried running with no config, with chris max fps config, and few others. same results.
Weird problem indeed. Don’t know if you should run tf2 with maxed details. You can try to speak with Chris, he knows so much more about this stuff. Maybe he can help you.
since hl2 engine is completly cpu limited it is surely not the gpu, just switched from a amd 5770 to a 6950 ( didnt buy to get more fpy in tf2 ;) and nothing changed, btw i also got drops to 80 with a amd x4 @3,6. got nno clue why also wondering…..

I just recently upgraded to an i5 2500K @4.4GHz, 4GB pc 1666mhz memory, I have a geforce 460 gtx card, and my FPS only drops to about 270 (from 300). I would say try a well known FPS config from someone who is using an intel processor first, look at the FPS you get from it. At least you can determine if it’s a config issue, or hardware/driver.
Oh didn’t read properly. Didn’t realise you were trying to play with everything maxed out.
Simple answer is… lots of stuff on your screen at high settings will obviously result in drops. If you want all the eye candy, look for suttle changes that you can make. Some settings you can change will have minimal impact on visual quality, but make the world of difference in performance.
@AcidReniX can you try playing the game on the highest settings with 1920×1080 and report back please?
Would help so much.
Also, got any suggestions for settings I can tone down? what are your settings?

such if your monitor is 1080p or higher then you will barely notice dropping antialiasing down to 2x. anything higher tends not to be overly visible.
