This is the circus and we need our entertainment. Make a library somewhere else if you want to talk academics.

It’s a great idea and something I’d like to have in TF2, but the ETF2L site just isn’t capable of it at this time. The league and forums would have to be completely separated, and the forums would need a total structural overhaul in order to implement the desired format. It’s another reason a site rebuild is a nice idea, but highly unlikely any time soon. I think there’s more chance of it happening on vanillatf2 than here.

y u no best ORG in tf2 anymore(
I just got back from school, so sorry for lateness of reply.
I understood the point of the article and my response was that although I like it as a concept I do not think it would work in etf2l. I am in favor of a separate place (get on it Torden) where we can have informed discussions, but I think the problem does not lie in the content that people post, but rather the lack of genuine response to these posts.
Recently people have had a doctrine that they follow and WILL NOT bend from. People from both sides try and convince the other side of their own view point, which is how a debate works, this is all good. But what I tend to see is people post good ideas and other will shoot it down instead of internalising it. I have changed by opinion on unlocks, more than once, due to the arguments that I have read, others seem so stuck in their view that they cannot take the time and actually digest information before response. I would much prefer to see people actually consider ideas before trying to counter them.
I think that another site, or at the very least, a sub-section of the etf2l forums that can be viewed by everyone, but only by invite can people post there, would be constructive. I would personally use another site and make sure the admins of all three leagues were there, as well as some members of teams that post useful, thoughtful comments and can actually persuade and be persuaded based on strength of argument.
There are many reasons why etf2l forums are not this place BUT saying this, I do think the levels of trolling and pointless banter have not out of hand. If you read this I urge you to think about any post you make, make sure it addresses only the argument that you want to dispute and that it adds something new to the discussion. These are the basic rules of a debate.

just make a sub section for ‘serious’ threads on ETF2L, ban any random threads and random replies for a couple of weeks from the sub section, etc
nazi admin with nazi ideas, u go girl
It isn’t about banning people, that isn’t what I was suggesting. I’m just saying that people should put a bit more thought into what they post.
tl got worse with the release of sc2. Still my favorite website, the moderators are fair, but you won’t get through with posting crap. Warnings and temp bans are the way to go in my eyes, and it works nicely on tl.net.
Compare that to the glorious moderation of ETF2L:

I for one personally believe the ETF2L forums to be in perfect nick Skylinerider. We really have some in depth discussions on unlocks and bans and to be perfectly honest we have always found a valid solution from the valuable and valid points that have been put forward and discussed. I would say the only downfall is the depth of discussion we go into and analytical focus we have on posts that can really become boring and tiring. I myself spend endless nights trying and testing people’s points of view in am attempt to improve on them and add my own ideas and even attempt to implement the opinions of others.
