All fast and good for me. Just sometimes the page keeps loading literally forever (even though everything is perfectly visible).

kind of a weak argument as they are using a cms.
but if you think there is a problem with the code in terms of loading times maybe you should step up and do it. Tbh I never have a problem with etf2l. ESL however the loading on that is noticeably slower than etf2l imo.

google page speeds analyizes mainly the sites code and no server performance / configuration. Also a low google page speed doesn’t mean the site is slow. If the server and the users bandwitdth is fast enough everything is ok.
For ETF2L thats normally the case but optimizing the code / cms templates could save some bandwidth but it takes a lot of time. I’ve done it here: http://pagespeed.googlelabs.com/#url=http_3A_2F_2Fwww.nice-servers.com&mobile=false
