Don’t have to go all high-end, just upgrade your arch in general; it’ll be a lot more efficient quality/cost wise than upgrading just the cpu on a system this old.
is the cpu upgrade just for TF2?
as the answer changes as far as a cpu goes, also cba to check whether your motherboard is an AM2 or AM2+ (cpu’s maybe supported in former, but in a limited capacity)
below is a cpu comparison from L4D2 (closest to TF2 I could find) note that tests conducted on a ddr3 mobo (AM3) not ddr 2 (AM2/2+)
