going to do anything outs sportsy ? since if so, i dont think headphones are choice of weapon. I know people are not aware of this yet, but there is actually portable headphones what are insanely good in quality, almost getting close to proper headphones. My opinion to matter of portable media is that you always need a portable amp. anything between 20-40 money is fine and enough.

More like sitting on my ass @ public transport :D. So I want good isolation (for myself, and for others).
Well for that HD25’s your thinking about are fine. There is also Sennheiser HD280 Pro (what is basicly the ultimate soundproofing up to 38dp) this is them on just your head, doing nothing, playing nothing. So if you listen music even in lower volume your not going to hear anything else than the music.
In ear option:
Sennheiser CX300-II Precision
edit: HD280 might be overdoing things :D

i got the V-jays for £45 here in England and theyr superb. the sound quality is clean cut but theyr not at all big. would really recommend.
never really considered battery usage prior to reading this, but i guess they also get the thumbs up in this respect, atleast i havn’t noticed significant battery usage since ive boughy my jayssss
thats because they sell by name a piece of shit good for nothing products what should be all razed down to hell. comprende ?

not going too much into this but what i posted are 4th generation ones, they have fixed the issues :)
oh yeah and talking about wobbly bass, as many of you guys have noticed i am bit “fanatic” when it comes to headphones, i once ordered these insanely expensive and good review getting IEA:s. Bayerdynamics and shit. They had the worst bass i have ever heard, it was like listening music trough wet cloth and that muffled the bass all muddy. I paid about 200 euros or something for these bad babies. I am so happy that I could sell them to next idiot with same price because they were prand new. Not even fucking amp could save those pieces of shit.

Sweet, my HD25’s are here (a day earlier than I expected, Thomann.de <3 Cheap and fast. Would recommend). Sound sweet on my ipod, but I have pretty much max out the volume to get some decent spl going. Can’t wait for the Fiio to get here to get that extra headroom. I mean the volume is fine to listen to, but I doubt I can boost it enough on older records that are mastered with a bit more headroom. At first glance it sounds pretty balanced, not overdoing anything like my normal hifi setup. Its all good.
edit: ow shit I just heard a guitar doing something on a track that I haven’t heard before. Fucking cx300’s :P.

Just wait until you get the amp. you will find your new senns to go from good to better. I am waiting to see your comments then. It’s really nice to actually notice the difference between amp and non amp use on some headphones. Even my dad, who is so tone deaf, noticed the difference on my gear between amp and non amp play.

Yeah, amps make a shitload of difference if you go from one that can just drive them to one that can easily do so. When I went from a Cambridge Audio 540A to a Marantz PM-16 my speakers just opened up. The CA just couldn’t drive the (mid)woofers properly to get some tight lows. Normally I’d say ~50watts@8ohm (I got it measured) vs ~105watts@8ohm (measured by some german hifi magazine, I think Marantz says is does 90) made more difference than I expected. But if you look at the PM-16 its simply a beast.
I plugged the headphones into my normal amp and it indeed sounds better, but my headphone out on the pm-16 is fucked (it has a constant level of static, turning the volume knob does nothing). I’ll probably need to get it looked at one of these days :P. Doesn’t sound better than my speakers though, I would have been surprised if they did. Its about equal I’d say. They have a smaller soundstage than my speakers, but the bass has more punch (not that hard vs 6.5″ woofers).
edit:
Found some pictures of my old & “new” amp.

Well my speaker setup is not anything really special. Some logitech 5.1 set with 80w satellites and 280w subwoofer. I really don’t use them as much and I run them in stereo (2+sub) since they sound so much better that way. Just enough for me to watch movies with friends (pretty much only time i use them).
But story on headphones is different. Currently my setup contains these:
Amp – Project HeadBox SE II
Headphones – HD650 (in use all the time), HD595 (sentimental value), AKG275 (in random use)
IEA – Sony MDR something (at work) and i have sold my mp3 player + fiio + cablemods + senn x300 set.
The HD25 are rather easy to drive actually, so I’m surprised you’re having to max out your volume.
My Cowon S9 never goes above half and my phone (Desire Z) just needs to go about above half for plenty of volume.
From both those devices I’ve never heard much of an improvement using a portable amp (Fiio E5 and cmoy amps).

I’ve to turn ‘m up to about 90% to get like a solid listening level, but there is just no headroom for quieter tracks (classical music, older albums etc). But comparing volume settings is useless, we don’t know what kind of algorithm is used.
I will be using the Fiio to by-pass the amp of the ipod, that alone should make a difference cause it doesn’t sound that well hooked straight up to my normal setup :P

I doubt the amp in my Nano is gonna be better than the one in the Classic, and the D9 totally smokes it.
