HI
After playing with the razer blackwidow keys all epiclan i’ve decided that i want to get a mechanical keyboard. Can anyone with more knowledge than myself recommend one? I have done research on them but there are many on offer. Now i know this sounds really noob but i would much prefer an aesthetic keyboard rather than for example IBM model M.

Having played about with them quite a bit, they’re really nice, it’s just up to you whether you care enough to fork out that much money for a keyboard. DAS one’s are really awesome if are going for it.
If you can live with having apostrophe in a totally insane location on your layout, the 7G is actually one of the better ones. ALMOST as good as the c64-keyboard ever was, but you can’t expect people today to get shit like this PERFECT! IBM Model M is still, as you point out yourself, the best option if you can get one in good condition (don’t forget the usb->ps2 adapter!). Even so, you would still have to re-spring it yourself to get it really comfortable.
The 7G, on the other hand, is just like Model M also beer-proof. I washed mine in the tub with some warm water after an “accident”, like new! Try that with your “gamerkeyboard” for 50 bucks.

i really wanna get a mechanical keyboard but i dunno if i can be bothered to spend that much money on just a keyboard :/
I am very seriously thinking of getting the 7G.
you make a very interesting point there gryzor with your 10,000 lines of code :D

6gv2 is pretty awesome, I’ll need to find a wrist rest somewhere though, getting some pain in my wrist.

I’m using that. Filco with Cherry MX Brown switches. Didn’t went for blacks (which are linear, without the sound and bump that you felt on the Black Widow) because I type quite a lot and this is nice for that. It has the bump that Cherry MX Blue’s on the Black Widow has, but not the clicking sound. Not the quietest though (ask the people that played with me), but quieter than the Black Widow. These gaming brand mechanical s are pretty good buys, but not as well build as Filco’s etc. Keys tend to wear rather quick on SS’s and Black Widows for example. You can replace them, but since Filco (and Ducky+Leopold) is pretty much the standard its hard to get keys for it. Gaming brands tend to use different size keys.

Model M’s are a blessing to type on, but they are only 2KRO which is really shit. Unicomp has new Model M copies, slightly lower quality but still top notch, don’t know how the kro is for those. Filco, Ducky, SS etc all have nkro on ps/2.
PS. Ordered these keycaps to be cool as fuck.

I love my 7G, nice cherry blacks although the black-widow seemed to feel pretty decent for a more budget mechanical.
It “feels nice” for a reason. It spares your wrists, fingers and hand-region in general. The mechanical clicking-stuff is not because it’s “cool” or “useful” mainly (even if it is), but it also saves your muscles an enormous amount of strain due to not pressing too hard nor straining muscles for a double-tap.
Typing on any Logitech/Microsoft/DELL keyboard is like buying food at lidl/aldi. It costs less but rots you inside.
Cobbys link was awesome! Had not read that before, but it is an _excellent_ read for anyone not initiated in the pseudo-science that is typing peripherals.
Considering you are THE joske — mind you might want to keep playing when you are as old as I am, but keep your skill. Get something decent and do not destroy your limbs :)
That sounded gay, but then again, I like gay. Mmm. <3
