good incentive, loved the idea about riding the trains!!!

Make ctf_badlands_spire where you fight over one flag on spire and it’s soldiers only, that way you have a map that appeals to people as they can do loads if super awesome airshots and put them on YouTube!

Another option, have byte make a ctf map, it will be in s9 no matter how shitty it is!

About travel time, and it might sound silly, there will be frequent trains running along the length of the map which any class can use to travel a lot faster for a bit. (not to mention it would be roughly the same time of a turbine cap without any such help which is tedious but not shockingly long)

Wouldn’t that train make it easier for the flag carrier to get away with it faster aswell? Sounds like it sort of nullifies itself.

I can offer you a ctf map with roofless chokes, interested? -.^

Depends on the bribe.

This idea in part!

Badlands would make an excellent ctf map, with flags placed on spire (cp2 & 4), set the capture point to be cp 1 and 5, and you have a good map

It was amazing in instagib though.

Badlands was originally a ctf map tweaked for cp in TF2, no wonder it would be cool as a ctf map i guess =p

I totally agree with arnold. There are some major flaws in ctf which doesnt make it a suitable mode for the relatively slow gameplay of tf2.

But cyclemate, i dont think that making it easier to catch intelrunners will solve the problem. In fact ctf_mercy already tried that. In my opinion that map horribly failed. The idea is to move the spawns more to the center, so when you respawn you can catch the intelrunner who is probably there. The problem is that both enemy respawns become really close together so it basicly becomes a dm fight on the middle. Or you get turbine where the spawns are further away, but there it isnt that easy to stop the intelrunners.

I’m probably just going to wave goodbye to this idea, as there indeed seem to be a lot of things to overcome that only came up here. A new and daring map would without a doubt develop it’s own problems.

No matter how much I would have loved to make this I think it’s fair to say it is probably going to be a waste of time.

You see it’s basically the same as capping a cp, only a lot less interesting. The actual fight happens and perhaps you will have to pop uber, force the enemy team to pop uber. But apart from that you’ll just have to win the deathmatch since there’s no real incentive to stand on a certain area you can just run around aimlessly killing everybody. when everybody’s dead you can grab intel and run. The whole running back to base with intel is just annoying and i hardly see an enemy team stop the intel from being capped once it’s out of their base. You could easily replace the intel with a cp and it’ll be more exciting. No running back with it, you can stop the cap you the fights will be more dynamic etc.

Valve has already invented this, it’s called Territorial Control.
Waiting for tc_turbine in that case.

A competitive multi stage TC map? o.O

ctf has nothing to do with tc. In fact tc is the most horribly failed gamemode that exists in tf2. It is replaced and rightly so with the much more interesting cp and pl gamemodes.

I personally believe 2 CP has a lot more potential than CTF as a competitive game mode. Sure, Gorge didn’t play brilliantly, but that was more the map’s fault than anything else, and even then it did provide some thrilling finales.

2 CP maps are quicker (theoretically) to make, allow for more invention in the control points themselves (there’s no need for symmetry), and they also let classes not as commonly played have a stronger role in the game. Plus, they’re a bit like Gravel Pit but steamlined, with no superfluous A point to take.
