Hi. Quite some time ago now, i created a map called cp_monkey, which was based on the highly popular TFC map, Monkey_L. If you played TFC even slightly, chances are you played that map. It was/is one of the most popular custom TFC maps out there and probably the only one more popular is Shutdown2.

Anyway, back to the map.

I have now finished making version cp_monkey_b4. Versions before this were very friendly towards the original version of the map, and that wasn’t to great for TF2 style play. Then i added sections to the map, and they were cack to say the least. Now I feel that I have gotten to the point where the map is suitable for clan play.

By releasing this version of the map, i hope to get some feedback, i know i’ll probably get trolled ;) but all feedback is welcomed. I’d prefer feedback based on gameplay style things, like for example, placement of health and ammo, or perhaps where health should be placed in the map for better demo/solly routes getting to 3, anything helpful that can develop the map would be appreciated. Also if some people could test the map in a 30min clan match/mix, and maybe even post a sourcetv demo up here of it, that would be awesome :D. I’ll probably get something like that done with my own clan at some point, but would prefer people outside my clan to try it out as well.

Please note. The map has only be fast compiled. This means you might get bad fps in areas. This will be fixed once i do a full compile, but i’ll save that for rc type versions. The maps probably good enough for an rc version now, but meh, i’ll let feedback decide that as you’ll all probably pick up on stuff i’ve missed.

Only thing I can say from screenies is that the middle might favor snipers abit, but that might just be me?
( or maybe you’re supposed to go with a sniper in middles on the map P: )

supposed there’s nothing much i can do about the Quake feel to it, as it’s heavily based on the original TFC map, and it’s a map made mainly to appeal to old skool type players, so meh, i suppose a Quake feel to it is a good thing :D

you should have seen what it was like in earlier versions. The object position wasn’t anything like it is now, and it could either turn to a sniper battle or just spam on the bridge. Now though I’ve made side routes which’ll hopefully make it easier for scouts to pressure classes like snipers, but also the object positioning should block alot of easy views, and where it is an easy view, by the time a sniper gets in position…. well it’s the other teams fault if they aren’t in a position to deal with him.

There should also be plenty of cover for medics because, although you can’t see it to well in the screenshots, you can run through the crates.

but meh! tactics are tactics i supposed and there’s many maps out there that sniper is used on, or not, so i all can hope for is that the mid point gives people various options to use and in turn it’ll hopefully make the map more interesting to play

red_ned (a founding member of CiC if u dunno) made the pickup bot for when Byte did his obscure stuff. Might have to revive the bot if there’s enough interest and get some pickup games going on it :)

i’ve not seen it myself but i believe someone already made a version of openfire and was supposedly really crappy. personally i don’t think it’ll work as a 5cp map though, even if had cap 2/4 where the flag capture is, that would just be one massive choke point unless heavily edited. i’ve thought about a shutdown2 in the past as well, though i think that’ll need heavy edits in areas to make it playable as well. but meh, i wanna get this map finished to a point where, hopefully, people enjoy playing it as a 6v6 map and it even gets league rotation consideration…. hell, i can dream can’t i :D
