hm, nice ideas out there, I’ll keep them in mind :) (or maybe we get in touch for some things who knows?)
so here we go some stuff for you:
– Golden cap on gravel: we keep on going as I was before because it isn’t that simple to get a draw
– Div1 Top match on lan: will not be organized by etf2l, because still be are an online-only league
– Mappicks: each team will be able to choose their map like Season 3. Is the most attractive system.
This has been decided by now. The following are unconfirmed news for you so if they change later on ;)
– we will set up a whole part of the rules or a kind of guideline for technical issues, so in case of you know what to do :)
– we try to set up a STV relay for the reasons you mentioned, but first of all we need to find sponsors. Same for public server, prices, and so on. I hope you understand this.
– As you noticed QuadV and Gamefire started to do some coverages (thanks to the work of mole I think, praise him! ;) ) but I really do like what you said (@dunc and byte). you could help these guys by providing them informations, or even doing the coverage if nobody is already doing it. (will talk to mole about that)
– we can’t do anything about dropping teams, maybe we try to replace them in season 4
– more coming soon :)

Ringerlimit !! 2 per Season please -.- They are really lots of Teams who are playing with a ringer every match..
Ringerlimit 2 á Season !
There is already a maximum number of ringers per match limit and you can only use them if the other team agree’s..
Just a few things:
– The 30 teams 1 year league would be a disaster. Look at how many teams folding atm, and imagine how it would be if each team had to keep together for 1 year. The way its played out now is nice imho.
– The point system needs to be sorted. It shouldnt be possible to end a map in a draw, and when thats sorted, i would strongly prefer to see the ‘normal’ point system with 0/1/3 points for defeat/draw/loss. Just makes so much more sense.
– To enhance the forum activity, i would love to see a “recent activity” column but only with forum activity, and at least twice as long as the current. That way when you enter the site, you can quickly see if theres any new forum posts that you’d like to read.
– make more seedings (at least from div1 to div3 teams) to make more fair divisions. Not necessarily 1 seed for every team, but some group seeding and then spread the best teams in the different divisions, so theres no strong and weak div3/2 divisions. The best thing would ofc be no seedings at all and just clans earning their way up & down in divisions, but atm im afraid the scene is just too unstable for that (i blame the fins! :P).
– Get some spons! I love the site with no commicials at all, but i would love even more some prizes for at least div1. Shouldnt be too hard, you gotta have a pretty good hitcount nowadays.
Thats all i can think of by now, but prolly come up with more.
And once again: You do an amazing work for all us TF2 peons, TF2 in europe wouldnt be the same without you.
What is with a new Homepage? I mean, it has nohing to do with Team Fortress 2 in this Design.. An good Header would be nice (with heavy/medic who get backstabbed by a spy? ;D)
With reguards to what someone said about teams in equal divisions making them unbalanced e.g. 2A stronger than 2B. I would simply say…
Don’t concern yourselves with others around you. Play in the division you are placed in. If you get promoted, you have earned it. It is totally irrelevant if the other division has a 4 way battle for number 1 spot while you wipe the floor with everyone in your division. The NEXT season will sort that out. You will never be able to balance the divisions manually, sure you can try, but teams recruit and drop players mid season, teams fold etc… A division 4 team might pick up 2, div 1 players. Those players might make the team better than division 4, could the admins see that at the start of the season?
If 4 teams in division 2A are all capable of holding their own in division 1, and 0 teams in 2B are capable of holding their own in division 1. It is not a problem. 2B would still win their division, and they can get knocked down next season. Meanwhile the remaining teams in 2A will get their chance in a later season. A division 1 team could get knocked down into 2B next season making it much more even.
Anyway, play with what you have been given and enjoy the challenge. If it’s not challenging enough, you will win and be moved up for a challenge in the next season.
Acid, this is a thread about ideas for next season, telling ppl to just do deal with it isnt really constructive =). I dunno if you was refering to my post, but ofcause your right, you cant make everything balanced, but maybe it can be done better then i was this season?
(And i dont got my weenie stuck here, i didnt play this season =))
If it doesn’t have to be about season 4 (there have been recommendations for public servers and shit, so I’m sure it isnt ALL about season 4), how about using a recommendation/black flag system?
Well, it doesn’t have to be that way. Basically, on enemy down, after playing an opponent, you can comment on them, maybe give them a rating out of 10 and then either give them a thumbs up for “This team is nice in game and generally awesome” OR a thumbs down for “This team was arrogant, etcetc”. All these are recorded into the teams profile. YOU DO NOT THUMB UP/DOWN BASED ON THE SKILL.
This would be much easier for some people to see if they’re coming up against arseholes. Also, if the team has a history of loads of thumbs down and claim some sort of default because the other team were doing something wrong (but have no proof), looking at the amount of bad/good comments could >HELP< determine if they are telling the truth.
w00p.
Just for reference, if you are specifically referring to division 2B being weak, it might be true but the top team in 2B can hang with the top teams in 2A I assure you.
It was an idea for season 4….. keep it the same as season 3 (that part). Any other ideas I come up with for season 4, i’ll let you know!
Might be good from an ETF2L perspective to try getting two or three of the less TF2-active admins [such as Mole, mvp etc] to specifically organise coverage for Division One games. I think it’d also be interesting to get some coverage for the top end Division Two games, especially towards the end of the season where games will start to determine who is promoted to Division One.
We definitely need to go ahead with the public server. Is anyone doing that, or should I get one set up? I could make the IP “ETF2L.nocrits.com” with default port.
I think the league could also do with trying to get some more sponsors on board. Not necessarily to get any specific perks, just to improve the TF2 community’s coverage. If you could get someone like Gigabyte advertising on the website, it just goes that little bit further to getting TF2 outsiders interested in the game.
Mole is already very busy with coverage at the moment Dunc! :) He’s only going to continue I guess.
Server = ++++
Sponsors; I think this should absolutely be no problem for ETF2L. Looking at my history and experience with this, and then looking at ETF2L’s activity, pageviews, popularity etc. you should be able to get at least one big sponsor and several small advertisers or so.
The point with this is that the owners make some sort of policy what they want to do with the money or what kind of sponsoring they’d like. This would take some time to discuss, work out, write down, publish, distribute, etc. Should be worth the time spent though.
Maybe get one admin dedicated to this matter would be smart. As I said; it takes some time, but if you do it right it will be worth it, and eventually it will only make you more succesful.
I havn’t actually played in ETF2L yet, but I already appreciate it as being the best TF2 league out there, for a number of reasons.
Firstly, it’s run by people who play TF2 regularly, and only those people. This means that changes that are needed get implemented (fairly) quickly, and the admins arn’t being stretched over multiple games etc. I think the fact that TF2 is still reasonably small has allowed this league to become so good, and whilst the expansion of TF2 will be great, keeping the connection between players and admins is what, in my opinion, makes this league great.
I think some of the ideas here have been really good. An ETF2l public server would be a great way to socialise and play with league members, but also to bring in good pub players with potential into the scene, showing them competitive rules.
Regarding sponsors, I think it would be great if we could a company to give us a server (don’t see why Dunc should have to do it). With the amount of high profile teams within the league, and the large fanbase, sponsors should want to get involved :) However, I don’t know about other people, but I really really really really reallly don’t want the home page and site to become clogged up with flashing banners advertising power supplies -_- The simpliticity of the current website is a dream compared to sites like ESL, and means that far more people are willing to navigate around. If there was some way of some more subtle advertising that would be great.
More coverage of the top 3 divisions in my opinion, would also benefit the league. There are more than enough capable players who could commentate, and give more insightful comments than the current commentators, and I’m sure if you asked people then many would be willing to do it. Perhaps some advertising in this coverage would be what sponsors would like?
Think I’ve covered everything.
TL;DR:
– League is already good because it’s run by the players – keep it up
– Get a public server from a sponsor, with ETF2l settings for socialising and bringing in new players
– Look for suitable sponsors, but don’t clog up the website with huge flashing ad’s
– Get coverage of the best games from the top 3 divisions, with a combination of the current commentators and players in the league.
I forgot to say – Amonsilas makes a really good point. There should be a clear policy set out as to what the ETF2l admins will do with any sponsor money. I think the community should have some kind of say, not necessarily the deciding vote, but some inclusion in whether the money gets spent on new servers, or on prize money for certain divisions, for example.
