Probably blabbed enough in this thread but one last word. TDH does seem a decent sidegrade at the moment. I find it hard to believe it could be game breaking. Whether the mini-crits stay or are removed will most likely dictate whether it will be banned. Even if they try to alter the mini-crit code I doubt it’ll ever be perfect. I just hope we can all agree that the mini-crits are unnessesary. Scouts and medics shouldn’t be punished for dodging, soldiers shouldn’t be rewarded for easier airshots and heavies shouldn’t be punished for jump-spooling their miniguns.

It’s been out literally a day and a half.

I think it’ll be similar to the FaN in that at first nobody will use it because they’ll simply try and put the weapon into their usual routine and find that it doesn’t do everything they want it to. There will be those that stick with it and invent a different playstyle for it, get used to the aiming (in this case a lot more difficult that the FaN’s easy meatshot) and be rewarded for it. While the FaN is (supposedly) a worse weapon than the scatter, time will tell whether it’s the same for TDH. Regardless I doubt there’ll ever be a leap in popularity like there was for the FaN after the buff and people actually gave it a chance, simply because it’s not instantly gratifying.

I don’t whine about it because of how it affects the game, but how it affects ME. I feel like the weapon can be used well and can be effective, yet at the same time I think (especially for mid fights) that the standard RL is actually alot better. BUT what I don’t like about the weapon is the fluke factor. How you die to the weapon is “lame”. You either are jumping and get hit by a random rocket and instadead, or you run around a corner and get 1 hitted. Just yesterday I came up behind a solly and shot two perfect shots in his back (to which he died) but just before the second, he flipped around and shot me and instagibbed me. Another bad aspect of the weapon, which everyone seems to ignore, and this does get rid of the “but you need shotgun to protect the medic”, the weapon at close range is literally a hitscan. At any range where a scout can do any lethal damage to your medic, the weapon is almost hitscannable. If you can shotgun a scout then I assure you, you can TDH him.

Please remember my points;
-weapon isn’t really overpowered (infact I think it’s underpowered)
-how the weapon works (or how it can turn a situation) is lame

but I don’t want to see the extra damage removed. You have to aim direct, that means you can miss your enemy easily.
125hp classes dying at very close range instantly? If not, why should I use TDH?
I can understand the scout’s whining, and I think one single rocket shouldn’t kill a scout on mid-range, nor a buffed scout on short-range. But if the scout’s unbuffed, the direct kill should be rewarded.

Demoman nades were able to 1 shot a scout back in the days, but it was removed. Why should i use the Grenade Launcher if I’m not rewarded with 1 shot kills anymore?

No weapon in this game should be able to 1 hit any other class (other than sniper headshots).

First because u were 1 shoting 1 class with a secondary weapon… Second because u had a primary weapon with 8 stickies that could do 800hp damage, and third because the grenade hitbox is bigger than rocket hitbox, means at CLOSE range (when most of the scouts vs heavy fights happen) its easier to hit with the demo even with the rocket speed.

I agree, although I think we will see baddies using it, because similar to the FAN, if you’re a very poor player this gives you a slight buff, certainly at CQC. Once the mini-crits are fixed I think even baddies will stop using it. Trouble is atm, some guy gets mini-critted and whines its OP, but overall, over the 30 minutes of the game, the DH has a negative impact on a team because soldiers are fighting single targets rather than dealing damage to multiple targets etc

Fix the minicrit, remove 10% dmg to counter the 1shot problems and its a great weapon for those that get accustomed to it.
Its all about which play style you prefer, giving sollys some options is great imo.
The “railgun” effect is well countered by the fact that the splash is basically non existent.

Predicting his movement is down to luck unless he makes it easily predictable. Having to hit them multiple times is more skilled if what you’re doing is based on “skill” in the first place. I would say that hitscan is more skillful than prediction-based projectiles simply because a scout that hits a meatshot every single shot is far more in control (and will have a much higher chance of being able to do this) than someone that hits every projectile. When a soldier with the TDH hits at a closeish-medium range it’s through his aim and more under his control that he hits.

Skill/difficulty the same thing, something which requires more skill is usually more difficult.

I would say that hitscan is more skillful than prediction-based projectiles

So you’re saying that a rocket launcher that fires in a completely unpredicatbly random way takes more skill to use than one which doesnt? Undeniably it would be more difficult to use than one that fired straight.

(Difficulty accounts for luck/chance, skill doesn’t!)

Whilst i agree with evil, the rocket moves so fast that at close range it can be considered hitscan.. it’s like arguing that a laser pen travels at the speed of light therefore is a projectile so you need to aim it well when you point it at a wall.

Personally, i think this gun needs a few adjustments to make it a decent sidegrade – cos i think it’s a less usefull weapon than the normal RL. This is my opinion only:
1. Remove the crit. I don’t see the sense in making airshots EASIER and then rewarding someone for hitting an EASIER shot.
2. Increase the splash damage (but not as big as the normal launcher)
3. Lower the damage to counter the above ^ and also because i think it’s unfair to one shot the majority of the classes in game.
4. Perhaps lower the reload time? Or this in conjunction with some of the above? Like keep the splash the same but make it reload faster? You may have to increase ammo capacity if you do this.
