I don’t know guys, all this info makes me think it’s going to be a lot more expensive then the last one.

I hope I am going to be wrong.

Well, food-wise if it’s so close to tesco and those fast food chains then food prices will be very similar to everywhere else.

The beer is really the only thing I could see potentially being so, but they’ve already answered that it will be about the same so it won’t go too far. I don’t think Coventry as a whole is that much more expensive.

My concern is probably hotels/accommodation prices, and the distances adding to taxis. I guess we’ll see though.

Also, there’s been community poker tournaments at lan before so that casino has to be open fo real.

I heard Coventry was a bit of a bombsite

hi im dog

Well distance shouldnt be a problem if city provides shuttles from/to arena (it was written somewhere in this topic).

Okay, so I went to i51 so here’s a little bit of information on the arena itself:

Pros:

– Very well air-conditioned, really doesn’t have any stuffy feeling that you get at TIC.

– Smaller halls for seperate games: where we stayed was pretty decent, if there’s a big TF2 group it will be very good for us.

– LOADS OF BARS, 2 in the hall we were in and plenty of others around.

– Toilets are incredibly clean and there’s plenty of them, I mean insanely clean, even on a Saturday evening they are really well kept.

– Food is really good for onsite stuff, nothing like stone willys though, but you have a good variety of stuff in the food court to choose from.

– COSTA COFFEE

– Taxis outside on queue.

– You require a pass to get in to our hall, no minecraft kiddies.

– Tescos and all sorts a short distance away, just like TIC

Cons:

– Security seemed to be pretty shit on some occasions, not really checking bags, there was nobody checking campsite wristbands at certain points apparently.

– Hotels are quite far away, the on site one had rooms booked pretty quickly, Multiplay have said there’s some rooms locked for next LAN, but there’s no shuttle bus service and it would cost around £30 per day to some hotels (there and back) via taxi.

– The halls aren’t on one level, there were 3 levels to the arena, we were on the top floor, not a major problem though but a pain in the arse when setting up and packing.

– Minecraft kiddies.

– They had really cute guide dogs that I kept on giving money to because they were fucking awesome.

– Poor range of food to be delivered to your desk.

– Quite a confusing layout and isn’t as easy to move around, but that’s not really a major problem.

Overall I do prefer the venue over TIC but I preferred the ability to get to hotels a lot quicker which can be a big deciding factor for some people, TIC had 3/4 hotels within walking distance and a new premier inn was being built outside it as well.

However, the place is a lot more hygenic and well kept compared to the TIC as on the Sunday/Monday you can start seeing the build up of nerd sweat etc and feel like shit. Bins were always emptied and the fact that I don’t have LAN death at all is a bonus, even though I don’t drink much I still had it from TIC because it was so stuffy.

If you have any more questions just ask.

I reckon a way to think of it is just a slightly more polished TIC. Nice things like hot water urns have returned! It’s just the accommodation, personally. The food was better on average, but the choice limited.

Might spam up some VTV article with an overview and some costings if I can remember stuff (and get the time over the next few days), might quote your post in if that’s alright war. Did anybody take pictures of the place at all? like pictures without clive humping a minecraft pig :D although I think that might have to feature in it.

There’s an overwhelmingly positive vibe on the forums and from the attendees about the place. I’m curious if that will carry over with double the people in summer.

Edit: I realised the mpuk flickr will probably have good pics for the actual venue.

I’ll stick up the usual threads sometime this week but as this is here:

Tickets currently 20% off until the start of June sometime.
No tickets include camping (£20 extra)
Hotel bookings and releases TBA
Very unlikely to have rental PCs available (exceptions in case of NA/AUS)

They went up a bit last year I think, and previously there’s been a 30% discount for the earlier bird that evidently isn’t on offer this time so they’ve gone straight to the 20% early bird.

is tf2 actually confirmed though?

Ive got to say I thought the new venue is ace, we were located on the bottom level jaguar hall my things of note are:

Air con was amazing to the point of feeling cold at some points! Worth taking a fleece for the later hours in the evening.

Food delivery from the online order system arrived so dam quick order 3-5 mins later your food had arrived!

Food from the venue food court was expensive but higher quality than that of tic, but as a result it was the least ive ever spent at lan on food, tesco is so close it was worth a 5 minute stroll from the campsite to pick up a couple bags of cheap food!

The camp-site was on real scrub land very few flat areas and lots of rocks! (I had no trouble sleeping so dont let it put you off) But massive improvement it was so dam close! Unlike the 15 minute hike from TIC it was only 2-3 min journey and you were there!

Showers were ace they had the usual outside showers but if you went 20 yards to the left and down some super secret back corridor you arrive at the Coventry city football showers, they had both communal showers and cubicles both were amazing best showers ive ever used at lan!

The main hall for watching the finals seemed a little bit lack luster, the screen quality didnt seem the best whilst watching the dota and there was only one screen showing the match, no stadium seating so if someone sits in front of you who is taller it can obstruct a fair bit of your view.

The security guards did a fantastic job of keeping the little shits out of the gaming hall :D

Staff were very pleasant, and Jager bombs drink offer of 4 for £10 is very good for a venue with a captive audience!

The CSS finals did not even get any stage time and it was a big prize tourney, we will have to ask multiplay if TF2 will get any stage time if we attend.

Bars that severed pints were everywhere unlike at TIC where if you drank cider you had to cross 2 halls and go to the main stage, coventry you never had to walk more than the length of the hall :D

There are probably loads of things I haven’t included, but my personal preference is coventry is the better venue. Cant wait for I52!

The on-site hotel: “We’re Sorry… No rooms are available for this property for Thu, Aug 21-Mon, Aug 25”

If other hotels are not at walking distance, how’s the parking? I mean can you come and go as you please?

As for first day arrival unloading and last day departure loading; how close to the seating area can you get by car?

Might come with my russkies if everything goes well with GGWP.pro and if my mates are going to be up to go.
