I’d really like to see the tournaments be a bit more inclusive for the lower teams.

I understand that the groups need to be setup the way they are to prevent silly matches in the later stages. However, it means that every group tends to end up with 1 team getting steamrolled in every game.

I don’t know how feasible it is, but could there be some extra games between the losers from each group? I think it would be worth it to give some good games to everyone who made an effort to enter.

Would be nice, since we played 4 games I think, 2 of which we might aswell have just given them a default really :/

This is the attitude pub communites who have atteded a few lans go in with they like tf2 but they are not keen on face rape, ok most arent.

Except alot of the pub communites get 0 good games since they are at the bottom of the pecking line, 9 vs 9 would at least allows them a chance for a few more evenly balanced games.

As for more 6 vs 6 matchs vs other losers there used to be a 6 vs 6 losers cup, but each lan the same thing would happen the losers would sign up (my team) then since it wasnt offical we would bugger off to the bar and not look back once wasting tappers and moles time :P

Theres nothing to stop people getting pcw’s against similarly skilled clans :]

I guess the only way around this would be to have a group of top seeds, all of which get promoted and then maybe a group of community teams of which none get promoted?

Very tricky to organise but could solve some issue, depends on sign ups and how many teams would rather go to the bottom group, i’ll look into it again some more.

Yes, the UKCS community entered 2 HL teams, one totally casual, the other has played in ETF2L (CDEH). Both were completely rolled by teams way better and more experienced than us. The first team didn’t even both to play their second match.

I would have liked to have known which maps were going to be played beforehand – was it published, it could have been me being blind.

I only remember the maps we managed to play (first round); out of those badwater and viaduct are fine, very familiar to general players so it didn’t really matter that we didn’t know about them beforehand. cp_steel is a bit different, as far as I’ve experienced it’s less popular on pub servers and so is less well known and wasn’t played in either ETF2L or Wireplay HL.

We didn’t bother entering 6v6 as most of us have only ever played a handful of 6v6 games and are only just learning the basics – we’d just get so rolled it wouldn’t even have been funny.

I was wondering why less than 40 teams signed up for 6v6 tournament then I noticed nobody from UKCS playing which did make me feel a bit sad, but as long as you had fun who cares.

Also LAN needs more Pandas, Edinburgh has pandas, Telford doesn’t. I hold Nymthae personally responsible for this.

And thanks Tapley for lending me your headset and Admirable I thank you for allowing Gubbins to steal your mic for me.

Well there’s that or you could have a second 6’s bracket for the knocked out teams. It’d just be a fun cup and would require a lot more effort on the organisational side which is less than ideal. But it might be nice if there was a lower league/cup for hte knocked out teams to participate in if they wished.

Thing is you’d still have a large discrepancy with div 3/4 teams getting knocked and then casually rolling all over the div 5/6/pub teams like a cat in catnip.

they tried the fun cups before, everyone just quits early cos they cba and then goes and gets drunk, also who even plays games at lan, you guys can’t have drunk nearly enough if you play all these video games.

Damnit. Why can’t you just be happy with balloonicorns like everybody else?

Also, there’s pretty much f’all that can be done to stop community teams getting rolled. For next event though, a better gathering of people on irc or something to actually get LAN pcws (against equal teams) would help.

That could work.

Your team was one of the teams rolling us but you stopped by for cake afterwards so that was alright!

i like the first maps of the map, but the final point is just so fucking gash for watching/casting it, its unbearable. im sure that its extremely tense and exciting for playing, but watching the same push go in over and over and over for a solid ten minutes where its exactly the same outcome and no one manages to bloody capture the last point.

and then you have that for up to SIX times (best of three, abba style)

its worse than freight, at least that ends after 30 or 40m

Remove steel and barnblitz, the take way too long to play. Process looks nice and big with many entryways to last so it could work as a HL map aswell.

For i49, have a seeded group of 14 or 15 teams that play games for seeding in the eliminations bracket. The rest of the teams can play groups the same way, with 1 or 2 teams winning a place in the elimination bracket. Kind of how MLG do their SC2-tournaments.
