really interesting read actually, not the thread topic, but thinking about a numbers game, regardless of what hp you’re on, nice way of thinking about those kinda situations, thanks for that :)
Even when I have 1hp as a demoman, I’ll still sticky jump to the enemy.

There’s always a few gunboating retards in the mix (<3) who try to jump you at every occasion. It's actually a better training in spam avoidance and keeping correct distance.
I do this in mixes, helps you understand whens the right time and the wrong time to jump and helps you see how medics dodge :P
I noticed only a few medics actually dodge by running underneath the aggro solly in the opposite direction he’s going in. Can be very risky for the med but it fucks over the aggro soldier :B
That, and it’s just fun to do :P
Feelin’ the same way here.
Played scout in the AFS (div 6) , didnt do too well there. After the AFS I learned to love Projectile classes and practiced in lobbies/mixes/pickups every day for several hours.
Hoped to get in Div 5 for S8 but I never even got a trial for any team that I applied to, with the reasoning basically being “Div 6-shitter” experience.
So I went with a div 6 team and carried them with a friend of mine to Div 5 this season. Feels to me like a wasted season. (In therms of gaining experience).
And there’s one thing that annoyed me all along, and just now even more. It’s pretty much impossible to move up from Div6/Div5 without any contacts. I for one am really dedicated to improving myself and as a team, but what options do I have in such low div’s?
You aren’t really going to get asked by Div5 and higher mixes to play with them, because you are div 6.
You aren’t invited to play in the “invite-pickup” channel, because you are div 6.
So really, what options do you actually have?
Feels like a pit where you have to incredibly slowly crawl out of.
I really wish I could do something to move up…

I’ve been in the same position for 3 seasons now.
As I said, get rid of all your dignity and brown nose everyone you meet, tell them they’re good, comment on their rec. posts that they’re good, make clips on youtube for them etc. etc. etc.
Only then son, will you go far.

i’ve never had to do that, it isn’t that. it might help, though.

Or you could do like the belgians did and work your way up as a team, not that there are many belgians left in TCM now but we didn’t start in div1 either.

Not applying it to everyone, but there’s a few people that have their heads so far up people buttocks it’s insane.
Especially as I know plenty of people that are modest that get overlooked by someone who jumped up the ranks from simply brown nosing.

Back then I’d guess it was a little bit easier than now. But who knows.

Yeah definitely. I know they_said from rej is the most modest guy ever, yet I can guarantee the guy could go out and outplay 80% of the premiership soldiers. such a shame the guy is quitting comp tf2 at the end of the season.

Thats pretty much what I figured, too.
So uhm, any other options for me? :s

The belgians were fortunate to have the good luck of finding a solid group to improve with, not many div6 shitters get that luck.. And let’s not forget you guys were rather decent from the start, I remember playing against “you” and noticing you had some skills when I was further up in the divs than you. :)

But you dont have to build up that experience in a high div, right? That makes no sense. You build up the experience in the lower divs, and then you can apply to higher divs and show during your trials that you know in what place to be and what to do at the right time etc. I've had solly trials for my team which were perfect sollies in terms of aim, but they just didn't have the experience to know where to be and what their function is in certain situations, and how to comm and react to comms efficiently. You simply need to play more to understand it. It has nothing to do with talent or elitism.
or you could just have a vocal caller who positions the team… this was the case in px2 where pplz was all aim no brain )))
