Thank you all for putting a bias on my vote :(
Like those votes would’ve mattered anyway.
You rallied people on tf2maps why shouldn’t the competitive community get a say too? We are by far the most active players anyway and it just so happens the criteria for defining a good map are different than the ones required to have a decent public map.
So I don’t think any harm is done, you just got a more diverse vote instead of a public players only vote.
BTW i never pushed people to vote for my map they acted on their own.
hmm arnold ive noticed if you take several of the letters above it forms the phrase
“vote for obscure”
sneaky, but I see what you did there :)

Anyone know how much money is involved in Valve buying the copyrights?
I think the guys who had their maps purchased are too humble to divulge such information ;)

Gullywash is way way way better than obscure.

@arnold I rallied tf2maps guys to vote how they wanted, rather than a thread (I know you didn’t make it) that asks for votes for a specific map. The power of suggestion is greater than you know.
However I know that the vote is likely to have little impact on the next community map as I know one of the leaders in the vote has already been snagged for it. Not that it would have had much impact anyhow.
Since I’ve had a map bought I’ll shed some light for those who don’t know the process:
Valve buy the rights to your map and all it’s content. It belongs 100% to them and they are free to do whatever they want with it. You give up the right to make derivative works without permission and profit from it in any other way.
However, in my case they only changed one thing, to fix a malformed sound, they’re able to change stuff but they don’t want to. I don’t think they changed anything in
When they bought Yukon they asked mangycarface to make some tweaks himself to keep his use of the coloured arrows in keeping with their own 5CP maps.
The usual sum valve offer is ~$3000 split between all the authors of content. The shares are determined by how much each person did.
It’s not like anyone here would vote for pl maps or w/e anyway. Out of the front runners, gullywash and obscure are the only ones I have played, and I’m willing to bet that it’s the same for the majority of players in etf2l. I have heard of coldfront, i think that might have been on one of those monday cup things, but from what I heard it was bad.
If this same thread had been on tf2maps, then fair enough, but on here I don’t see the problem.

Voting is always biased. The vote was already biased when I saw it the first time. Having real-time results in the first post makes for a huge bias, as people tend to vote for the maps that have the most votes already.
Yeah, I know how the power of suggestion works and that’s why I made this thread. Imo, gullywash deserved to have a lot more votes than it had at that time. And seems like many people agree.
edit: Also, it’s kind of stupid to come into a community that you don’t seem to know very well and to tell us how to vote on maps, discarding our votes as “biased” and then calling the whole vote itself rather meaningless. I wonder if it’s just because the vote didn’t produce a result that you wanted? Doesn’t that actually make you more biased than us?

No.
I never imagined that Valve would pay anyone for a map. I can understand why but I would have expected map makers to permit Valve to use their maps free of charge.
Personally if I was to vote excluding my own map the only map I would vote for by far that I feel and consider that would be played online public and pro wise is gullywash.
I don’t know about Gullywash in terms of feedback/support from the community but it would be a crime/idiotic for me for example not to ask those who have supported obscure over the course of the year and apply that into an “unofficial” poll, sure it may not make the slightest difference however I would stand to lose nothing if I do get it recognized/voted for.
Also i think compton was right to do this thread, as gully deserves a mention especially out of the maps being offered in that poll list. So in theory compton did you a favour imho.
Cheers
