Why are Gold players allowed in open?

How is it fair that a open team has to fight against http://etf2l.org/teams/26973/ who won every single match. Why you might ask? Well it’s certainly not because they’re a good open team.
I’ve been in that team for half a year and the leader climbed the ladders by recruiting higher tier players (no player less than silver)
1. http://etf2l.org/forum/user/113366 is gold in HL (old team)
2. http://etf2l.org/forum/user/112673 is gold in HL and plat in 6v6
3. http://etf2l.org/forum/user/112326 was plat in his old final frontier team
Don’t forget that they have http://etf2l.org/forum/user/125106 who a lot of people think he’s hacking.
Shouldn’t they be considered mid??
The rest of them (dominantly) are silver, with some odd ones in steel.
YES I am salty that we lost, but that’s not why I’m making this post. We lost only because they’re having their high division players carry them.
How is something so scummy allowed?
-fixed the links bap
6v6 experience is considered equal to highlander experience, for Season 11 we will look at 6v6 seasons 22-25. Other leagues are included in experience. UGC Plat is considered to be high and as such players with plat experience are not allowed to default merc in mid/high, Gold and Silver are considered to be Mid.

im open and have a bad mentality apprently so yea
last season had much worse teams, but we still won ,ugc is a joke, shouldn’t even count it s experience
+ winning open should mean that you are mid, can’t complain to get stomped by open/mid players
Ugc is a joke? Really? It’s very closed minded to think that experience in UGC doesn’t equal to anything. How come UGC is a joke? Where is the reasoning behind this?
@Sasami
“get stomped by open/mid players”
Heh, naming Descent open could offend them :p
lybon ♥: it’s so salty if i was to make salted caramels with it that it’d ruin ’em
lybon ♥: it’s so salty it’s toxic even to the LoL community
lybon ♥: it’s so salty i can’t think of a third analogy

UGC has historically been taken less seriously than ETF2L within the EU regions. Players can tend to get to plat with mid/high experience, and due to the divisions being collapsed together a bit, and alot of teams being moved, this has resulted in huge problems in sorting accurately by skill. Steel now has much worse teams in it due to the lack of iron (think of it as etf2l not having the open div.), silver has quite a few ex-steel teams moved up and most of the “top” silver teams already chose to go plat as there is really no system in place to stop them effectively. Plat has a huge difference in skill from bottom plat teams to top plat teams, and with gold also being collapsed it means that it is feasible for a silver team to just scrape into plat and then get destroyed due to massive skill gaps.
UGC is also seen more as the “american” league, and as such there are many teams in the UGC league that play less seriously compared to ETF2L. This view has meant that alot of players see other teams already taking it less seriously and learn from example to take it less seriously too.
The UGC whitelist has done a few contraversial things too, like banning the razorback, and this has lead to an impression that it may be more “experimental” than something meant for more serious play.
UGC has more recently started to fix the first issue, though the second issue is more engrained into the EU tf2 community and may take many seasons to fix and ultimately, until a majority of players share a view that a league should be played more seriously it is really hard for it to become more serious as “most people just don’t take it seriously anyway, so why bother?”. The third issue will probably also die down given time, though for now it is still an issue.
Because of the reasons verbatim, many people do not choose to take UGC experience as seriously as etf2l experience and how much UGC experience is worth compared to etf2l experience can vary wildly based on the team they were on as well as who you ask. Due to this variation, people generally not taking UGC seriously when they do play it and the key differences like the banned razorback it is hard to accurately put a UGC skill div to a ETF2L skill div, at least when both divs are played in the EU. Therefore, UGC experience is mostly not considered in ETF2L (and in UGC, ETF2L experience is mostly unconsidered.).
I would like the stance of admins to this tbh
Good that you bring this once the season is basically over…
We do count in UGC experience to some extent but arent as harsh on it. There are a decent amount of reasons for this:
[*] First up, you cant see if they actually played a match. UGC only logs team history, no match history.
[*] As mentioned already, the amount of teams and skill levels within UGC is more limited compared to ETF2L.
[*] Many teams see UGC as the league where they play for fun with friends. A fun season where you play without scrimming or taking it serious happens frequently.
That mentioned we do look into cases if they get brought up. We try to keep the tier within ETF2L balanced but checking every single player’s UGC profile to see a listing of teams that they might not even have played for is worth more trouble then anything.
Automating it is something that is on the to-do list but isnt a priority due to the limited amount of cases this has every season.

The season before that team won 2 matches in Open, perhaps they improved?
Either way, you can’t expect admins to know how good a team is based upon their UGC experience / skill, there was once a team we didn’t even consider it. We’re two different leagues with different levels of competitiveness. We do not interact on a regular basis in order to decide teams skill levels are accurate. We will do what we can to prevent deliberate sandbagging but the idea of a competitive league is teams who are unproven in ETF2L like this team prove themselves by winning.
I’d rather give this team credit for winning, if you asked admins to guess their skill level at the start and saw they won 2 matches in 7 last season and then they told you they were Mid you would not believe them.
